I started using essential oils for emotional wellness faithfully a few years ago. I can not believe the support they offer. I’ve been using essential oils for over 10 years. What was I missing!?

I am an emotional human being, that is for sure, and oils have helped me move through the waves and center myself when I’m in the middle of the storm. They’ve helped me start to let go of what i dont need to carry, process old, buried emotions and find the freedom within myself to feel free and safe enough to live with an open heart again.

All the detoxing and alignment work I’ve been doing is focused on body mind AND heart. I found so many people, myself included, have been hurt and scared to feel too deeply. Afraid they can’t handle the feelings they have.

Aromatherapy with pure essential oils can help you process, and get to the other side of the wave. If you are needing support emotionally right now, reach out to me and I’ll help you find the right oil to spark more joy, peace, and balance that you deserve. 💕☺️🍂

Did you know that research suggests that deterioration of olfaction (sense of smell) precedes a decline in cognitive abilities? Indeed, olfactory loss is associated with significant losses of brain matter (gray and white) in humans. Loss of olfaction can even predict the progression of mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease.

Knowing the correlation between olfaction and cognition, researchers set out to investigate whether olfactory enrichment (exposure to fragrances) can improve memory in older adults (aged 60-85). Participants in the study were provided a diffuser and seven essential oils (rose, orange, eucalyptus, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, and lavender). They diffused each oil in a rotation—changing the oil they diffused daily—for two hours as they slept. This process was continued for six months.

The researchers found that aromatic molecules have privileged access to areas of the brain and pathways relevant to olfaction and memory, which may help normalize brain circuitry linked to memory. Remarkably, nightly diffusion improved cognition, memory, and neural functioning by 226%!

How to Make It

✅Add 10 drops of each oil/blend to a 10 mL roller bottle

✅Apply daily to your hands and inhale slowly and deeply 3 times then apply to the bottoms of your feet in the morning during the autumn & winter, and as needed if you start to feel under the weather or if someone in the house is.

A recent review article concluded evidence suggests that lavender essential oil relieves anxiety, stabilizes mood, promotes restful sleep, reduces pain, and protects the nervous system. The image from my presentation shows how lavender impacts major systems of the body.

Anyone working with children knows that focus is rarely just about attention; it’s about regulation, sensory integration, and feeling safe enough to engage.

Whether you're supporting a child with difficulty focusing, sensory processing differences, learning developmental factors, or general developmental needs, aromatherapy offers a gentle, non-invasive tool to help the brain come into a more focused state.

🧠 Here’s how it works:
When we inhale certain essential oils, they send signals directly to the limbic system (the emotional center of the brain), influencing neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine—both critical for attention and focus.

🌿 Oils to consider in-session or at home:
→ Peppermint – Stimulates alertness, mental clarity, and cognitive performance
→ Lemon – Uplifts mood, encourages clear thinking, and supports working memory
→ Cedarwood – Calms the nervous system while promoting sustained attention

💡 These oils can be diffused in your therapy space, placed on a cotton round, or used in a personal inhaler (with caregiver approval). Always introduce slowly and with client consent.

Bonus tip: Encourage caregivers to create an “aroma anchor” for home use—so the brain learns to associate the scent with “focus time” whether it’s therapy, school, or homework.

Helping kids focus isn’t about forcing stillness—it’s about meeting the brain where it is, and offering tools to support it 🍋

In therapy, the healing doesn’t start when a client sits down.
It starts the moment they step into the space.

The nervous system is constantly scanning for cues of safety or threat. When clients enter a waiting room that smells warm, calm, and grounding, the limbic system registers that message before they even make eye contact with you.

This is why scent matters in therapeutic environments.
Aromatherapy isn’t just about pleasant smells—it’s neurosensory support.

🧠 What the science says:
The olfactory system is directly wired to the limbic brain
Inhaling certain essential oils can lower heart rate and cortisol within minutes
Pleasant aromas create positive emotional associations and reduce anticipatory stress

🪷 Oils to consider for your waiting room:
→ Lavender – proven to reduce anxiety and calm the autonomic nervous system
→ Wild Orange – uplifting, helpful for emotional fatigue and pre-session jitters
→ Peppermint – focusing, encourages deep breathing and presence

Even one drop diffused before your first client can shift the tone of the day.

Because healing doesn’t begin with a worksheet.

It begins with the atmosphere.

Did you know that 80%–95% of all diseases are linked to stress?

Research from the American Institute of Stress and leading integrative health organizations confirms what many therapists observe daily: chronic stress impacts every system of the body and brain.

The nervous system wasn’t built to live in a constant state of fight-or-flight. But our modern world—notifications, overwhelm, high emotional labor—keeps the stress response activated.
As mental health providers, we’re in a unique position to model and teach tools that shift the body out of that state.

💡 Aromatherapy is one of the simplest tools to calm the nervous system in real time. Studies show that inhalation of certain essential oils like Lavender, Bergamot, and Copaiba can reduce cortisol and support parasympathetic activity in under 60 seconds.
