Learn more about the Canadian Northern Tradition of the qajak

Traditionally used for hunting, the use of qajait (kayaks) has virtually disappeared from contemporary Nunavik. Today, Thomassie Mangiok, Centre Director at Nuvviti School, is pushing to bring back the qajaq as a way for Inuit to connect with their roots and culture.

Our society was created because our Adaptive Paddling Consultant, who started Abilities in Motion over 20 years ago in Ontario wanted to share this experience online with everyone.

This is a photo of the portable Hoyer lift that she was able to purchase for their use.

I encourage businesses to look into this for their own use.

To ask us questions, our adaptive consultant can provide first hand knowledge of the safe way to use it for paddling experiences.

We love watching shows with actors/actresses with visible and invisible disabilities. The more exposure to regular people rather than the "perfect " "perceived" body, movement, and mannerisms generated through pop culture and media, maybe the less we will stop judging ourselves and others.

Under 5% of all TV characters have a disability.

Only about 21% of these characters are played by disabled actors.

This is why authentic representation of the disabled community matters.
