Body Confidence….
Do you have it??
Does it depend on your pant size??
Many of us have spent a lot of our lives feeling uncomfortable in our own skin.
Body confidence is hard to describe. When we have it, we don’t really think about it.
But, when we don’t. It sure stands out.
I know a lot of my clients have gotten really good at faking it. And that can work sometimes.
We become the comedian of our group, we become the nurturer looking after all our friends, we become the problem solver.
The ol’ fake till you make it…
But, most times, if they're honest. It’s a facade.
It’s like makeup we put on in the morning. It’s fake. We use it to hide what we think are our flaws or to feel like we always need to project our very best selves.
We are well taught from a very early age that perfect is best.
Sure, we can pretend to be confident, but deep down, we can feel the insecurity.
Here’s the real tricky part about body confidence and, in turn, long term weight loss too.
You have to ACCEPT your body as it is, BEFORE you can change it.
Ya, I know, you may have forced your way to a lower weight which may have made you feel a bit better.
But the reason you gain it back so quickly??
You haven’t changed at the identity level.
You’ve only changed the outside - your environment, your diet, your meal planning site, whatever.
You haven’t done the work to change and accept yourself, flaws and all…
We are so often told to hustle and grind our way to “transformation”.
But what if we loved and accepted our way there instead?
The truth is…..you can’t hate yourself thin…
Your body knows the difference from when you’re nurturing it or if you’re punishing it.
I know it’s not what most of us want to hear, because, let’s face it, it’s easier to not eat nachos for 6 months than to accept ourselves as we are.
Sad, but often so true.
So, what if today, we take a baby step in a different direction??
Let’s not go right to “I LOVE my body just as it is”
That may feel a little fake.
How about, we pick ONE part on our body that we like or even if that’s too hard right now, ONE body part we have no feelings about.
For example, maybe today, you can say you like your hands or your eyebrows…
Or your eyes or your smile…
You get the idea. ONE part. That’s it.
We can all do that I hope.
And once you do, really look at it. Be grateful for it. Be appreciative of it.
You’ll be amazed at what you see.
And tomorrow….find another one.
You’ll slowly start to see your amazing body through new eyes.
Eyes of appreciation and gratitude.
I’ll go first in the comments…..then you share💙
