Steaming vegetables is considered a healthier cooking method compared to frying, and this is why:

Preservation of Nutrients: Steaming veggies helps retain more of their nutrients compared to frying. Nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants are better preserved in steamed vegetables because they are not exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.

Minimal Nutrient Loss: minimizes nutrient loss as compared to frying. In frying, especially deep frying, the prolonged exposure to high heat can lead to the breakdown of certain vitamins and minerals.

Lower Caloric Intake: Frying often requires the use of oil or fats, which increases the calorie content of the food. Steaming does not add extra calories. This makes steamed vegetables a more suitable option for those looking to manage their calorie intake.

Preservation of Color and Texture: Steaming helps preserve the vibrant colors and natural textures of vegetables. Frying can lead to overcooking or uneven cooking, resulting in a loss of color, texture, and overall quality.

Less Formation of Harmful Compounds: Frying at high temperatures can lead to the formation of harmful compounds, such as acrylamide, especially in starchy foods. Steaming does not expose vegetables to the same risks associated with high-temperature cooking.

Healthier Fats: If you do choose to fry, using healthier cooking oils like olive oil or avocado oil is recommended. However, even with healthier oils, frying still adds extra calories. Steaming eliminates the need for added fats.

Reduced Oxidation: Steaming minimizes the exposure of vegetables to oxygen, reducing the risk of oxidation. Oxidation can lead to nutrient degradation and the production of free radicals, which may have negative health implications.

Maintains Water-Soluble Nutrients: Steaming helps retain water-soluble nutrients like vitamin C and certain B-vitamins, which might leach into the cooking water during boiling.
