Andréa Lussing Counselling Therapy

Andréa Lussing Counselling Therapy I offer counselling therapy online and in-person from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Binge eating is not a personal flaw.

I specialize in helping individuals overcome binge eating, anxiety, stress, trauma and general life dissatisfaction. I help individuals who struggle with binge and emotional eating find the peace they know is waiting for them. I work from a biological and brain based perspective, and help you understand why you binge and why it's not your fault.

I just added a live training replay to my profile links on Instagram. This is a recording from a couple of years past, but the main reason people binge eat hasn’t changed! 👉🏻👉🏽👉🏿 You can watch the recording (and see some of my early work) here: https://www.andrealussing.com/training101.

This is a huge deal. 👉🏽👉🏿👉🏻 Moving away from restriction and guilt, becoming compassionate and curious, practicing foundational eating = less interest over what’s in the cupboards. Big win. 🙌

Hello, it’s been so long. I’m here. I’m always here. I’ve been busy on other things- a temporary training roll I’ve taken on, my Masters program, clients, a counselling-focused book club, and my mentees, plus non-work life and wellbeing. With that, social media has been put aside for a while. But I’m still here. And I’ll be back. 💕

When you skip meals or restrict your food intake your brain suffers, and when that happens you're more prone to impulsive food choices. Eating regular meals and snacks keeps your body and brain fuelled so that you can continue to make choices that serve you.

Your brain is an energy hog — and for good reason! Do you know what your brain is capable of?

Did you know guilt is a primary ingredient in most binge eating? When we feel guilty about what we’ve eaten that discomfort can lead us to eat more.

It could be the ‘eat it now since tomorrow will be a fresh start’ promise, or the ‘I’ve already blown it’ mindset, or the unconscious ‘more food will numb this emotional discomfort’.

You don’t need to punish yourself in this way. In fact, you need to give yourself permission to not eat perfectly. The more comfortable we become with imperfect eating the less we’ll hang on to guilt, and the sooner we’ll make peace with all foods.

Great post by .food.rules! I especially like: using it as a chance to learn, and noticing if there was a trigger. 👉👉🏿👉🏼

Were you overly hungry?

Had you missed some meals recently?

Had you been eating light?

Was it food that you told yourself you wouldn’t eat?

Did you trick yourself into thinking this was the only chance to eat this food?

Had you made rules that you then broke?

And one more that I would add... Forgive and move forward. 💕

I’ve been a little quite on Facebook and Instagram and it’s been deliberate. Sometimes social media takes away a certain balance that I’m aiming for- hours lost, internal pressure nagging at me to post, beliefs that posting is essential to support people. But I know it’s not, since true support comes with a readiness to connect in real time, to take that risk of trying something different.

So in the meantime I’ve been painting, seeing friends, reading, and enjoying things that inspire me to do more.

That said, next week starts a new round of my group program, Binge Eating Breakthrough. If you’re ready to connect offline, visit www.andrealussing.com/binge-eating-breakthrough to lean more about how we will spend the next 6 weeks together.

Don't hesitate to message me if you have any questions. ✨

Have you noticed what you think? What you tell yourself? What you believe? Have you noticed how it impacts your feelings, your energy, your mood?

Thoughts are powerful. Take time to notice what you’re thinking. Write it down, take a look. Then choose kindness.

I want to know, can we leave space for just ‘being’?

Is there value in giving ourselves a minute to not push forward, to not need change, to just sit for a little?

Are we skipping too quickly over what we actually need to accept or forgive in ourselves, and looking for some quick answers to take us past the anxiety or moment of discomfort?

Do you really need someone else’s wisdom today, or is there wisdom within you that is aching to be heard?
