Saint Vincent's Nursing Home

Saint Vincent's Nursing Home Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home is a 148-bed not-for-profit long-term care facility accredited by Accreditation Canada.

Founded by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Halifax in 1966 and run by the Sisters of Charity until 1978, we are now a secular organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our mission is to provide quality care and services in a home-like atmosphere. In keeping with this mission and the expressed needs of the community, promoting quality of life is the cornerstone of all care, services and programs. Our 50 year history is one of fostering a nurturing environment for residents, family, employees, volunteers and students; one that recognizes their physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural needs. We are proud of our legacy as a Caring Community.

***Be sure to visit our photo album of the human's of saint vincent's series. As the Artist-in-Residence, Susan MacLeod is focusing on how to visually show Saint Vincent’s as a compassionate, resident and family centred nursing home. Her series of sketches ‘Humans of Saint Vincent’s’ will aim to demonstrate how residents are human beings with a range of needs, wants, personalities and emotions, and to demonstrate how staff compassionately interact with residents daily despite the obstacles of budget and time constraints.

Today we come together to reflect, to honour, and to remember the brave Veterans who served and sacrificed for our freedom.
We are grateful to share this day alongside residents, families, and staff.

Lest we forget.

NHNSA remembers the precious children who never returned home from the residential schools and the travesties that fook place. We honour the survivors, the families of the children lost, as well as all families and all communities impacted. We are dedicated to learning more, to seek truth and to be part of reconciliation.
Orange symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem experienced by these children, serving as a reminder that "Every Child Matters".

When Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home (formerly Guest House) opened in 1966 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Halifax, it was administered by 8 Sisters of Charity as an outward expression of their “contemporary mission to the Church” (from the Sisters of Charity Archives).

St. Vincent’s Nursing Home was named after Saint Vincent de Paul (guy in the picture in our lobby!), who is remembered for his work with the poor. His guiding principle was a conviction that God is in every person and that God is love.
The values he held - respect, compassion, humility, and simplicity are evident in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home’s core values of caring and respect for all.
“Lord, help me make time today to serve you in those who are most in need of encouragement or assistance.”
- Saint Vincent de Paul
