Students interested in graduate studies in Aging and Family Science or Applied Human Nutrition at MSVU, with a research focus related to long-term care, are eligible for a substantial scholarship, thanks to the support of Shannex.

As part of a partnership rooted in a commitment to leading the way to healthier futures for aging adults, a Shannex Graduate Scholarship in Aging and Nutrition was recently established at MSVU. The scholarship is available to MSVU students in thesis-based graduate degree programs in Aging and Family Science or Applied Human Nutrition whose research is focused in an area related to long-term care.

It’s an exceptionally valuable opportunity for students and the broader long-term care community alike. Through the scholarship, students can conduct research aimed at making a meaningful difference in the lives of those living in long-term care. Recipients also benefit from working along-side some of the country’s leading experts in aging and in nutrition.

Thanks to the generosity of Shannex, $20,000 will be awarded annually for five years and may be split between two full-time students each year. The first scholarships were awarded last year to Sara Mafla, a graduate student in the Master of Science in Applied Human Nutrition, and Hend Eldlk, a fourth-year honours student in the Applied Human Nutrition and Dietetics program.

The deadline for applications into these programs is January 31 for Applied Human Nutrition and February 15 for Aging and Family Science.

Today is Bell Let’s Talk Day, a reminder that mental health matters for everyone.

It’s an opportunity to reflect on the importance of compassion, resilience, and support in our communities. Mental health is just as vital as physical health. As the day winds down, take a moment to rest, recharge, and reflect. Small steps like checking in with yourself can make a big difference.

Let’s keep the conversation going, today and every day.

Residents at Bridgeview Hall are always eager for a little friendly competition, whether it’s Bingo, Trivia, or one of their all-time favourites, Table Curling. Over at Losier Hall, creativity was in full swing as the craft group enjoyed an evening of painting, followed by a cozy morning of baking.

These activities boosted creativity, connection, and plenty of smiles to both residents and team members 💙

Residents at Ryan Hall have been busy cutting, stuffing, and assembling handmade cat toys with a very special purpose. Each week, the local animal shelter SHAID Tree Animal Shelter visits Ryan Hall with a cat waiting for their forever home. With plenty of cuddles, pats, and the occasional lap nap, these visits bring love and joy to residents.

Inspired to give back, residents sold their handmade toys to raise funds for the shelter, and were thrilled to raise enough to purchase every item on SHAID’s wish list. They’re already looking forward to their next fundraising adventure!

Thank you to SHAID for the weekly visits and for all you do to support animals, and the people, who love them.

The New Year brought fresh activities to Miramichi! Residents enjoyed a festive sensory guessing game at Bridgeview Hall, identifying hidden holiday-themed items by touch. At Losier Hall, Dennis shared his artistic talents during a guided paint class. We’re looking forward to even more fun in 2026!
