Not sure what to expect for your first visit to the Chiropractor? Letβs walk through what a standard Initial Assessment looks like! πΆπ»πΆπΌββοΈ
- Detailed Health History π: The first part of the exam consists of your Chiropractor asking you questions related to your current and past medical history. This will include some personal and family medical history in order to get a better understanding of your overall health history. This part of the exam will then focus mainly on your current symptoms, which includes: the onset of your symptoms, frequency, intensity, both relieving/aggravating factors, and more.
-Focused Physical Examination πͺπ»: This portion of the exam is where your chiropractor will try to pinpoint the root cause of your pain/symptoms. They will perform functional movements, range of motion, palpation of muscles and joints, relevant orthopaedic testing and neurological testing. They will ask you questions throughout in terms of what you feel and where to better understand your overall presentation.
- Diagnosis and Report of Findings π: After completing the first 2 steps, we will then give you a summary of what we found through our examination. We will then give our working diagnosis, which can be explained in detail both verbally and visually through the use of models or diagrams.
- Discussion of treatment plan and 1st treatment π: Lastly, we will discuss the future treatment plan. This will include how often we would like to see you and for how long (ex: 2x/week for 4-6 weeks). We will also discuss the methods we will use for our treatment, which can include soft tissue therapy, mobilizations, manipulations, acupuncture, exercise, stretches, modalities, education and more. With the remaining time the chiropractor will begin treating the affected area in order to start decreasing your overall symptoms.
