I am often asked, “what is that cracking sound?”.

The answer is: Our joints (where two or more bones meet) are enveloped in a capsule. Inside this capsule is the synovial fluid, the liquid that lubricates and enables our joints to move freely. When an adjustment is performed, the joints space is opened slightly leading to a formation of gas bubbles in the synovial fluid. Typically, these gas bubbles are composed of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and oxygen; and get re-absorbed in approximately half an hour.
