As a Black trauma therapist, I know the in-between can be the most tender emotional & sensory experience - the grief of what my lineage didn’t get to pass down, the pull of traditions that were imposed violently, and the truth that some of them still bring me comfort. Duality is not failure. It’s human.

When a simple ‘no’ feels like the end of the world.
I’m learning that my reaction isn’t weakness—it’s a protective part of me that’s been on high alert for a long time. Rejection sensitivity makes small moments feel huge, and sometimes my mind writes painful stories that aren’t even true.
But I’m practicing slowing down, breathing, and reminding myself that ‘no’ doesn’t mean unworthy, unlovable, or unwanted. It just means not right now.
If you feel this too, you’re not dramatic. You’re human, healing, and learning to trust your own worth.

Awwwwwwwwww, Seasonal Affective Disorder, I actually thought I was going to beat it this year, and it said “Hello, you are going to get rid of me that easy B *h”. Here are some tips to help take the edge off S.A.D.
Walking in the daytime, even on overcast days makes a Difference
Invest in a good sun lamp, I have had my sunlamp for 10 years 5-15 minutes twice a day
Invest in a good quality Vitamin D and B complex, not all vitamins are created equal unfortunately
Take a creative class or join a choir, it does wonders
And swear, cuss, dance, and create spells all you want because it sucks

Looking in the mirror is hard when you have a complicated relationship with your blood relatives. seeing their features on your face is not easy, and it can create distress about your own face. Learning to see features that are uniquely you, can help bring back a sense of sense when you are pulling back into the past emotionally
