This morning, Markey-Dermody Funeral Home was honoured to take part in the City of Hamilton’s Annual Remembrance Day Service at Veterans’ Place in Gore Park. Our team laid a wreath in tribute to the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

A video of our wreath-laying was featured during the televised ceremony — a meaningful reminder of the importance of support and participation in our community.

We will remember them.

25th Anniversary Good Shepherd Harvest Dinner

On Thursday, October 16, 2025, Lanette, Tracey, Cassandra, Alex, Michelle, Laura, Chara and Rebecca proudly represented Cresmount, Markey-Dermody and Marlatt’s at the Good Shepherd’s 25th Annual Harvest Dinner.

This year’s theme, “Harvesting Hope”’ highlighted Godd Shepherd’s vision of building a healthy and resilient community. The event supports essential programs that address barriers to housing and economic stability, including affordable housing, mental health crisis services, emergency food and clothing programs, shelters for men, women, youth, families and palliative and senior care.

We enjoyed a wonderful evening filled with a delicious meal, great entertainment, and heartfelt stories of community impact. The evening’s auctions and fundraising efforts directly benefit Good Shepherd’s mission to provide dignity, compassion, and support to those in need.

It was an inspiring celebration of generosity, community spirit and hope for a brighter future. We were so proud to be part of it!

Our Story

In 1971, William Markey bought 2 funeral homes in Hamilton from William Dermody. The P.X. Dermody funeral homes were located on East Avenue South and King Street East. When William Markey died in 1978, his wife, Mary, and son, Chris, continued to run both.

To better serve the Hamilton community, Mary and Chris built a new funeral home, and in 1987, the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home opened to families.
