A little bit about me; I am a registered nurse, specializing in mental health and also a Registered Psychotherapy (Qualifying). My goal with Evolution Counselling is to provide a safe environment and tailor my approaches to best suit your needs in that moment. Currently I pull from Cognitive Behavioural, Strength based, and Solution Focused approaches along with others. I currently provide virtual therapy sessions on a secure platform allowing for easy accessibility to clients throughout Ontario.

Horses are our safe space—they bring peace, comfort, and that special connection we crave. 🐴❤️

But sometimes, they also stir up stress and tough emotions. It’s that push and pull we all feel as riders.
The magic happens when we give ourselves permission to feel both—the calm and the challenge.

Understanding these emotions helps us ride with more awareness, confidence, and compassion—for ourselves and our horses.

🧠🐴 Riders, What’s Your Pre-Show Routine?

Our horses have theirs—whether it's a quiet hand walk, a ring ride, or a favorite treat before heading into the ring. Their routine helps them settle, focus, and prepare to perform.

But what about us?

As riders, our mental and emotional state directly impacts our performance and our horses. If we want to ride at our best, we need to build a pre-show routine that supports our mind, body, and focus.

Here are a few ideas to consider:
✅ Light breakfast + hydration
✅ Calming music or a power playlist
✅ Mindfulness or visualization before tacking up
✅ A mantra or word to center your focus
✅ Gear up slowly—let it become part of your mental prep
✅ 3 deep breaths before entering the ring
✅ A quiet moment with your horse—just you two

The goal? To train your mind like you train your body—so when show day comes, your mindset is already in sync with peak performance.

🧘‍♀️ Consistency builds confidence. Routines regulate nerves. Calm minds make clear decisions.

Emotions have a way of showing up at the most inconvenient times—like in the middle of the show ring or during a lesson. 😅

This sport comes with intensity: pressure, passion, nerves, frustration, joy. It’s a lot. And as riders, we’re not just managing our own experience—we’re also thinking, problem-solving, and supporting our horse in real time.

That’s why emotional control matters. Not by pushing feelings down, but by learning how to hold space for them. 🧠💬

In the moment, try this:
✨ Take a deep breath
✨ Soften your muscles
✨ Name the emotion you're feeling

These small steps can help you reset and stay present for the ride.
