My whole life I never identified as a person with a disability*. I've had a disability my whole life though. Instead, I believed I just wasn't trying hard enough. I wasn't skilled enough. If I **reeaaallly** tried I could do it. I masked at an expert level... until I couldn't anymore. The stress of parenting during COVID exhausted my capacity for masking. My working memory disappeared. My ability to manage sensory sensitivities - gone. Planing, organizing, tolerating stress - vanished.

I've spent the last 2 years focused on learning to love myself, disability included. I've embraced my neurodiversity, and shifted my energy focus from masking to accommodating. I love my job. I love the people I work with. I love being a mom. In order to do those things, I need to do it in a way that works with my brain instead of against it. I have spent years encouraging folks to build square holes for square pegs instead of forcing them into round holes. I needed to take my own advice. I started to recognize a lot of internalized ableism. My inner critic had a different set of rules for me than it did for others.

I really started to question the beliefs I had about how I *should* be doing things. I've worked really hard at throwing that rule book out. I've also worked really hard at nurturing the thoughts that provide compassion, understanding, and reject the need for conformity. I get to do me in the way that works best. This means there is more of me to share with my kids and my clients. I now try to live my life by "do what works" - other things don't really matter - just do what works. I nurture this thought everyday.

**I know person-first language isn't for everyone, but it's how I identify. I support anyone's need for identity-first language too.

I have the Sunday Scaries! It's been a beautiful weekend full of rest and family time, just what I needed. Don't want it to end, and facing the Sunday Scaries. Trying to be present in this moment (rather than tomorrow). I'm going to try and get some things cleaned tonight so I can start the week with a fresh slate. What are you doing to beat prepare you for the week?
