I feel incredibly lucky to have this gorgeous painting as the cover for this very special project that I care very deeply for. Check out Katie's BIO below.

Katie McDonald is a visual artist born in the unceded Coastal Salish territories/Vancouver, BC. She received an MFA from Concordia University in Painting and Drawing in 2023 and a BFA in Sculpture from Concordia University in 2014. Katie has been a part of perfomance collectives such as ORANGEY, Kim Love and Persons, all of which focused on sound and movement experimentation and visual installation. Katie has exhibited across Canada and currently lives in and works in Tiohtia;ke/Montreal, QC.

Hi! ❤ I haven't really properly introduced myself. I'm Allie! I am non-binary and the person behind Alma Doula Death Care. On top of building this practice I am also a dancer and musician based in Hamilton. I have wanted to be a Death Doula for many, many years, but unfortunately never had the time to commit to the schooling. During lock down I finally had the time to go to school and got certified through the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto. I am so excited to be entering this new chapter and so excited to keep exploring ways to connect my practice as a dancer, musician and reiki practioner to the work I do as a Thanadoula. I've got big plans so stay tuned! And thank you to all of you for sharing stories, experiences, wisdom and for the support. I look forward to connecting more! Currently embarking on a very special journey to become a practioner of Usui Traditional Reiki. Today I just completed my First Degree. I plan to complete my 2nd Degree as well, but need to give space and time to feel and practice this degree for a while. I plan to integrate Reiki into my work as a Death Doula as well as outside of this work. Please get in touch if you're interested in Reiki in End-of-Life-Care or just generally interested. I would love to practice on you!

its important to make sure that we are saying everything we need to say before its too late. Holding things inside only complicates our grief.
