Today, Traditional Healing Program was invited by Gihekdagye, formerly known as BRISC, to provide a cedar foot soak for the senior group hosted by Victoria, Traditional Healing Coordinator.
Nia:wen to everyone who participated. I hope you all enjoyed the experience.

As part of the visit, we shared a short teaching on the importance of cedar. Cedar is known as a protector and a cleanser, helping to lift away what no longer serves us and to bring balance back into the body and spirit. When we place our feet, our connection to the earth, into cedar water, we allow the medicine to ground us, release tension, and welcome renewal.

We also learned that other herbs can be added to the soak to create blends that support self-love, healing, and personal intention. These plants work together to remind us to care for ourselves, to slow down, and to honour the teachings the natural world offers us.

At the end of the gathering, each participant received a take-home self-care kit with everything needed to create a cedar foot soak at home, so the healing can continue.

Nia:wen’kó:wa for sharing this healing time together.

What a beautiful way to mark the end of our journey together. The DAHC Traditional Healing Team hosted the final Community Gathering for the Mending Broken Hearts "Odayimann" Project, alongside a Cedar Smudge Spray Workshop.

Our heartfelt thanks to Bernice Downey for sharing her powerful story and research findings, reminding us just how vital it is to create spaces for healing, learning, and connection in our communities.

This project is about helping Indigenous women feel confident in managing their heart health by educating healthcare providers about Indigenous women’s lives and approaches to well-being. The knowledge gained will be used to create training for healthcare providers and workshops for young Indigenous women, with the goal of building stronger relationships and empowering women to take charge of their heart health.
