Many of us learned that when we make a mistake, we’re supposed to punish ourselves.
Maybe no one taught you another way.
Maybe that’s how mistakes were handled around you.
But self-punishment doesn’t actually create change.
It keeps you stuck in shame, defensiveness, or collapse — not learning.
Responsibility comes from awareness, reflection, and repair.
You can acknowledge impact, take ownership, and grow
without turning against yourself in the process.
There is another option — and it’s far more supportive than self-attack.
