My name is Jodi Rock, I am a registered band member with Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. I am however (according to our original instructions not colonial laws) Six Nations of the Grand River Mohawk, turtle clan. I am a mom to 4 2leggeds and 4 4leggeds, an auntie to 4 and a great auntie to 4. As you can see from my work history, my community service within health care has involved enhancing safety in health care spaces/working relationships and service delivery for Indigenous patients, navigation support, partnership development and education/training. I've also enjoyed many roles within Residential community support programs (family violence, transitional housing, homeless, survivors of human trafficking) and providing support to Indigenous children and their families (foster parent, access care facilitator, alternative dispute resolution). In my personal life, I have been carrying healing energy (reiki) for nearly 3 decades, active in learning more about our natural medicines and wellness practices for decades as well. I am artistic, creative across a variety of mediums, an avid learner and the unofficial 'historian' for my large extended family. This work resonates with me on a very personal level. I have experienced how valuable community connection and support can be during the transition from life to death for individuals and families. Supporting my own loved ones in this transition has left lasting impacts on me and a desire to serve others in the same ways I have been supported.
