💦 The Rule of Three 💦

The Rule of 3 states that a person can live for 3 minutes without air (oxygen), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. 🙊

In general as humans we tend to mentally prioritize food 🍕 over water 💧 but in reality water is far more important to the
body‼️

We can live 7X LONGER without food than we can without water 😯 So drink up 😉

💖 Anything that triggers you, is teaching you what part of yourself needs healing ✨

I know that may be hard to hear but read it again. It isn’t meant to reduce the validity of your feelings or belittle your experiences. It’s meant to put the power back in to YOUR hands. 🤲🏻

If we allow feeling triggered to end at the feelings it evokes within us then we miss the value of the experience. 💖 We are human, we are allowed to have our reactions to things, there is nothing wrong with that. 🫂 But if we can’t also, after the initial response, look at it and ourselves and assess why something gets to us so much and try to slowly chip away at the underlying cause and heal it, then we will never learn from ourselves and improve our experience. ❤️‍🩹

Sometimes, talking it out with someone outside of yourself who you trust with your emotions is the most helpful. 👥Other people are good at self talk. 🗣️ Whichever works best for you, it is important to take the time to do the work. Otherwise we just keep living the same painful cycle. 💞 No one wants to walk around with their nervous system on edge.

💕 I know it seems hard, but you’ve lived harder things. You’ve got this and you are worth the effort! 💪🏻

🩵 Bullying 🩵

My daughter competed in and won her schools Speech Competition yesterday! 🏆

Her winning was an exciting addition to this moment, but I am most proud of her for doing her speech in front of a room full of her peers (no younger grades were at the assembly) AND her bully. 🥰

The courage it took to present a speech about not only how bullying affects those who suffer it but also about why people become bullies and the emotional and physical effects it has on both children was all I wanted for her to gain out of this experience. 💓

Her speech empowered her and others like her to take back their power! 💞 It also cast a light on the data driven and statistical reasons that children become bullies. 🔦

Her words were so impactful that a student who frequently bullies kids was brought to tears, which was heart breaking 💔 and it got me thinking….

How many parents don’t know that their child is a bully? 🤔

Turns out only 14% of parents whose children are bullies acknowledge that they bully. The key word here being acknowledge. Researchers found that it was hard to gage as parents tend to feel judgemental or blame when asked about their child’s behaviour. The causes of bullying are well documented and researched so it’s understandable that a parent might feel this way. 💕

If you are concerned that your child may be bullying others there are some things you can look out for;

- Your child is aggressive or has difficulty regulating emotions.
- Your child frequently bullies siblings or young family members.
- Your child has a strong need to dominate or control
- Your child is very focused on being cool or social status.

This is of course, not an extensive list nor does it mean that if your child exhibits one of these characteristics that they are for sure bullying. This list is simply meant as a guide to lead you to start asking questions if you believe your child might be bullying.

There are programs available to help support you and your child. This doesn’t have to be a lifelong experience for either of you.

I can’t get my daughter speech out of my head. I hope this was enlightening and helpful to someone.

🚨 SURGERY 🚨

It is common for Doctors to recommend different types of therapy post operation but it is actually equally as important (if not more important) to have treatment pre-op‼️

In my 14 years of treating, every patient I have worked on pre-op has been their surgeons “star patient” 🌟 during recovery because their muscles and tissue were in the best shape possible going in to surgery! 👌🏻💪🏻

Pre-op preparatory treatment should be considered as vital a part to surgery as post-op treatment is. ❤️‍🩹

So if you or a loved one is going to have surgery let’s chat and see when is the best time to start treatment.

💦 Signs of Dehydration 💦

We’ve talked a lot about all of the things water does for your body. If you aren’t getting enough of it, all of those systems, organs and tissues suffer. 👎🏻 So how do you know if you aren’t getting enough water?

☝🏻 If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated! 💯

Yep that’s right! If you allow yourself to actually feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. That is why it is important to keep drinking water throughout the day! 💧

Other signs of dehydration include;
💛 dark yellow, strong-smelling urine.
👎🏻 urinating less often than usual.
😵‍💫 feeling dizzy or lightheaded.
😴 feeling tired.
🏜️ a dry mouth, lips and tongue.
👁️ sunken eyes.

None of these symptoms is all that threatening, but the systems that are suffering because of these symptoms can be life changing! 🩵

So drink up!

A patient of mine just had knee surgery, they are 70 years old! They sent me this message yesterday letting me know how GREAT their recovery is going, and I couldn’t be more happy for them!! ❤️‍🩹

🗣️ “Good morning Alison, day number 17 and I feel fantastic, we are quite a bit ahead of schedule, I thought it would be here after four weeks and I’m here now walking without a cane, walking a couple of blocks no problem, a little sore around the cut obviously but pretty well off medication.
I just needed to let you know. Again, thank you for helping me through this journey!”

💖 I absolutely love what I do and that I get to help people feel better in their bodies! 💖

Seriously❗️ Like seeeeeriously‼️ You never know who’s watching and you NEVER know what someone else is going through. 💞

So while you are beating yourself up and frustrated that you aren’t where you want to be yet, remember that you are simultaneously motivating others to keep going and believe in themselves the way you believe in you!

A form of nerve impingement causing radiating pain anywhere from the back, down the glutes 🍑 through the leg 🦵and down to the foot.🦶

Physiologically sciatica can be caused by a nerve being impinged between two tight muscles, between a muscle and a bone or by a single muscle alone. 🤯 So many possibilities!

I have treated HUNDREDS of patients with sciatica in my 14 years as a Massage Therapist. I feel like I’ve seen it all now •0
Determining which of all these possibilities is actually occurring is my job, and I love sorting out the puzzle of my patients pain. ❤️‍🩹

💦We’ve all heard the “drink 8-12 glasses of water a day” line.... it’s old, it’s tired and most importantly it’s unspecific.

It’s a generic number created over 50 years ago by the best available science at the time. 💤 We are far beyond that now.

More importantly we need to have a more individual and specific approach to this age old dilemma.... how much water should I drink a day? 🤷🏻‍♀️💦

The Institute of Medicine came out with the best formula for this question!

Take your body weight in pounds and cut it in half, that’s how many ounces of water you should be drinking a day.
🎉 Brilliant, specific and individual to you! 🎉

If you workout, add 30oz 🏋🏻‍♀️

Water is INCREDIBLY important for literally every system in your body! Stay tuned for more details on that!
