🧑‍⚕️ What is DoxyPEP?
• A new tool being studied to help lower the risk of some bacterial STIs (like syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea) when taken shortly after higher-risk encounters.
💊 How it Works
• After a higher-risk situation, a dose of doxycycline may help stop certain infections from developing.
• It’s not 100%, but research shows promising results.
📊 What Studies Show
• Syphilis → up to 87% lower risk
• Chlamydia → up to 70% lower risk
• Gonorrhea → less protection, but still some benefit
(Research so far has focused on LGBTQ+ communities, especially men who have s*x with men and trans women.)
✅ Who Could Benefit
• People with recent bacterial STIs
• Those with multiple partners
• Communities already at higher risk
⚠️ Important Notes
• Doesn’t protect against HIV (PrEP is the option for that).
• Doesn’t cover all STIs (condoms + regular testing still matter).
• As with any medication, there can be side effects — talk to a provider before using.
• Overuse could contribute to antibiotic resistance.
🗣️ The Bottom Line
DoxyPEP isn’t a silver bullet, but it could become an important part of s*xual health. The best approach is combining it with PrEP, condoms, and regular testing.

🧑‍⚕️ What is DoxyPEP?

- It's a med you can take within the first 72Hs after a possible exposition that helps reduce risk of syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea

💊 How it Works

- You have s*x (condomless or higher-risk exposure).
- You take it within 72 hours.
- The med prevents bacteria from taking hold in your body.

📊 Evidence So Far

- Syphilis → up to 87% reduced risk
- Chlamydia → up to 70% reduced risk
- Gonorrhea → less effective, but still some protection
(Results mostly studied in gay, bi, and trans people who have s*x with men)

✅ Who Might Benefit?

- Men who have s*x with men (MSM) and trans women
- People with recent bacterial STIs
- People with multiple partners or frequent condomless s*x

⚠️ Things to Keep in Mind

- Doesn’t prevent HIV (use PrEP for that)
- Doesn’t prevent all STIs (condoms still matter)
- Possible side effects: nausea, diarrhea, sun sensitivity
(Be mindful that overuse could lead to antibiotic resistance)

🗣️ Talk to Your Provider

- Ask if DoxyPEP is right for you
- Discuss how it fits with PrEP, condoms, and regular testing

🔑 Takeaway

- DoxyPEP is not a silver bullet, but it’s a powerful new tool to lower your risk of STIs. Use it wisely, along with other prevention strategies.
- It doesn't prevent HIV, you may use PrEP for that.
