Every January, we’re told the same story:
If you’re not motivated, disciplined, or “locked in” yet —
that’s your problem to fix.
Social media sells urgency.
Hustle culture sells shame.
Productivity culture sells the idea
that rest is a moral failure.
But lack of motivation isn’t a personal defect.
It’s often a signal.
A signal of burnout.
Of grief.
Of chronic stress.
Of living inside systems that never truly slow down.
ACT asks a different question:
“What matters — given the reality you’re in?”
You don’t need to force yourself into momentum.
You need context, compassion, and values-based direction.
Not every January needs a reinvention.
Some need repair.
