Strive For Progress NOT Perfection!
Progress is more important than perfection.
Progress means getting things done with a reasonable level of quality.
Perfection means having an unealthy attachment and expectation towards an outcome that might not necessarily happen.
Progress is about focusing on developing and consciously progressing a skill towards a level of excellence.
Perfection is all or nothing and is about doing something to an invisible standard that you or someone else judges to be good enough or not.
Progress means you awknowledge where you are at and working to evolve, grow, and improve from one day to the next.
Perfectionism means you fail if you don't achieve your finite outcome goal straight away or at a specific yet unknown point in time. This is an unreasonable expectation to say the least.
Its like trying to shoot a basketball and expecting it to go in the first time. Even Steph Curry, the best shooter in NBA history shoots just over 90% from the freethrow line. Not 100% and I can confidently say no one ever will. Why? Because we are human and we are not perfect.
It takes time to learn any skill and perfectionism means you fail again and again in the process, on the other hand, embracing progress means you are learning all the way.
The feeling associated with failure sucks, its draining, disheartening, demotivating, it creates anxiety and its enough to stop you from even trying and ever achieving success.
(Whatever success means to you)
The feeling associated with progress is great, its empowering, motivating, creates fulfillment and this is fuel that helps us keep going and pushing through the hard times.
Nurturing a growth mindset and diminishing perfectionist tendencies is a key to long term success.
