At 35, I couldn’t buckle my own snowboard bindings.
My gut was in the way.
I was gasping for air just standing on the ski hill with my kids, watching them fly down the mountain while I could barely breathe.
That was my wake-up call.
Not a heart attack. Not a doctor’s warning. Just a moment of brutal honesty:
I was disappearing.
I was missing my kids’ childhood because I was too exhausted—and too unhealthy—to show up for it.
So I made a decision that night:
I was going to run a 10K.
I hadn’t run in over a decade. I could barely jog around the block. But I signed up anyway.
That one race led to another. Then marathons. Then giving up alcohol. Then kitesurfing. Wingfoiling. Becoming the active dad I’d almost given up on being.
15 years later, I’m 50+ and more alive than I was at 25.
If you’re reading this thinking “I’m too old” or “It’s too late”:
You’re not. It’s not.
One decision. One race. One moment of honesty with yourself.
That’s all it takes.
