BUILDING BACK BETTER...............Shovels in the ground.

We are delighted to share the news that construction of the new Reid’s Funeral Home is underway. The construction crew is hard at work and we are looking forward to watching our brand new facility begin to rise in the coming weeks.

Our new home will be located at 1063 Main Street in Hampton, the very same location we have served you from since 1967.

While the loss of our building has been a challenging experience, it has given us the opportunity to custom design a new facility perfectly suited to our needs with priority given to the comfort and convenience of the families we serve.

The new Reid’s will be constructed entirely on one level and will offer a functional and flexible layout that will allow us to accommodate a variety of gatherings and events to suit everyone’s unique needs. Retractable walls will permit visitation or reception space to be combined with our Chapel to accommodate gatherings of up to 150 people when necessary. Our Chapel is configured to provide a beautiful view of the Kennebecasis River as a backdrop. The design also incorporates an efficient kitchen space to facilitate coffee service and reception catering.

While our construction schedule is still being finalized we anticipate that the new funeral home will be completed and in operation sometime in the fall of 2022.

As we have since fire destroyed the funeral home, we remain ready to serve the families of Hampton and surrounding communities should the need arise. While we await the completion of our new building, we have arranged temporary alternative spaces right here in Hampton to meet families and host visitations, services and receptions as required by those who rely on us. Should you require our services, please call 832-5541. We are here if you need us.

In closing, we want, once again, to thank our friends and neighbours, the Town and the greater community for your support and encouragement as we have dealt with this situation. We are looking forward to showing you our new home when it is ready.

The qualified applicant will assist our Funeral Directors with a blend of customer service and task-based responsibilities. Flexible part-time hours may include daytime, occasional evenings, and possible on-call shifts.

While we appreciate any interest, only qualified applicants will be contacted for an interview.

As many of you know, our funeral home was extensively damaged by a fire on September 23. That was a difficult and challenging day but we want you to know we are carrying on and continuing to serve and we have some news to share.

To begin, however, we must first pause to say thank-you! We have been overwhelmed with your calls, notes and posts. The caring of our friends and neighbours and the support of the town and businesses who have been helping us get back on our feet, have made this a much easier journey. We are grateful beyond words and we’ll never forget your kindness.

As you might imagine, since last Thursday we have been kept busy serving families already in our care and making arrangements to ensure that we are able to continue doing so. We are pleased today to announce that, working with the Town of Hampton, we have been able to secure the use of the Lighthouse River Centre as a temporary home for Reid’s.

Over the next few days we will be working through the process of setting up office and visitation space at the River Centre and we will let you know as soon as all is ready.

In the meantime, should you need us, please don’t hesitate to call. We have other short-term arrangements in place and will see that your needs are met. You may continue to reach us at 506-832-5541.

With plans in place for the immediate future we can now turn our attention to the longer term and, while we are still in the midst of sorting through the many details, we are happy to be able to assure the community that Hampton will have a new funeral home. We will rebuild, and we will do our best to keep you up to date as our plans move forward.

Finally, we have to thank our staff who have stepped up, in so many ways, to care for you and to lighten the load on us. We have a wonderful team without whom this past week would have been simply too much.

A Special Thank-You

On behalf of everyone at Reid’s we want to thank and recognize the Hampton Fire-Rescue, Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department, Long Reach Fire Department and Nauwigewauk Fire Department for so quickly responding to the fire call in the early hours of September 23. Your prompt and effective action to contain the fire at our business was remarkable. The commitment, training and character of those involved was obvious in their courageous response to our situation. The four crews worked seamlessly together with professionalism, and consideration and courtesy to us.

A heartfelt thank you for your dedication, and the time and effort you so selflessly give so often, to meet the needs of our community. You are heroes in our lives.

Funeral Home Damaged By Fire

In the early hours of Thursday, September 23, Reid’s Funeral Home on Main Street in Hampton was extensively damaged in a structure fire.

While the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined, we want to assure our community that there was no harm to anyone resting at the funeral home and urns stored on the premises awaiting burial were rescued. No one resides in the building.

In addition, for those who have services preplanned with Reid’s, your plans are stored electronically and they are safe.

We have been in touch with families currently being served by the funeral home and assured them that we will complete their services. Our team is already at work making certain their needs are met.

We also want you to know that should you require our services in the coming days, we will be here to assist you. As many of you know we also operate funeral homes in two nearby communities and arrangements will be made to appropriately accommodate the needs of Hampton area families. Further details will be made available as soon the situation allows. You may continue to reach us at 506-832-5541.

While it is too soon to say exactly what our next steps will be, we will do our best to keep you informed as the situation evolves. We thank you for your concern and patience as we work through this.

We would like to conclude by thanking the Hampton Fire Department and those from other local communities for their quick and professional response early this morning.

Thank you

Dyson & Melissa Regular
on behalf of the Reid's team.

For many of us the arrival of the holiday season can bring fond memories of loved ones who have died. We know that those memories can be bittersweet and may be accompanied by a sense of loss in the first months and years following a death.
We want you to know that our thoughts are with you and your family at this time and we would like to invite you to join us at a special service of remembrance. Our Tree Lighting Service is intended to bring together families who are dealing with a loss and to offer an opportunity for mutual support and reflection on the comforting memories the season can inspire.
We are pleased to host our 2018 Tree Lighting Service on Tuesday, November 27th beginning at 7 pm. This service will take place at Reid’s Funeral Home, followed by light refreshments.
If you, or other family members, would care to, a donation of $5.00 will add a light to our tree in memory of your loved one and their name will be read during the service. An individual may make more than one donation and add additional names to our honour roll. All donations will be passed along to the Hampton Food Basket to support their vital work in our communities.
We hope you will be able to join us for the service and to see the illumination of our special Christmas Tree as a beautiful, seasonal memorial to those we’ve lost.
In closing, it is our wish that the coming holidays will be a time of comfort, healing and warm memories for you and will find you surrounded by the love and support of those dear to you.
