Honouring Edythe’s Legacy of Compassion and Leadership

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our friend and founding Board member, Edythe Oberle.

Edythe’s impact on hospice care in our community is immeasurable. As a dedicated hospice nurse, she brought comfort, dignity, and compassion to countless individuals and families during life’s most tender moments. Her care extended far beyond the bedside - Edythe became a driving force in shaping the future of hospice services in our region.

Over the years, Edythe served tirelessly on our Board of Directors, contributed her vision and energy to the Hike for Hospice Committee, and played a pivotal role on the Saugeen Hospice Build Committee. She was never afraid to step forward and speak publicly, educating the community about palliative care and advocating for the benefits of having a hospice residence close to home. Her voice inspired understanding, her leadership sparked action, and her passion united us in a shared mission.

Many of the special features that our residents will enjoy in the future Saugeen Hospice Residence, will exist because of Edythe’s thoughtful involvement. Her commitment ensured that
this space will not only meet medical needs but also provide comfort, peace, and a sense of home for those we will serve.
We are deeply grateful for her vision, her service, and her unwavering dedication to making hospice care accessible and compassionate for all.

Sacred Heart Parish in Walkerton is proud to present a generous donation to Saugeen Hospice in support of their new hospice build.

Our journey began in 2021 when we joined the One Heart, One Soul campaign initiated by the Diocese of Hamilton. Since that time, the outpouring of generosity from our parishioners has been nothing short of extraordinary.

This past October marked a particularly meaningful chapter in our fundraising efforts. We were honoured to host a Pipe Organ & Sacred Music Concert, made even more special as Sacred Heart Parish received the Pipe Organ of the Year Award. While admission to the concert was free, donations were gratefully accepted in support of the Saugeen Hospice campaign.

To conclude our fundraising journey, we brought our community together once again with a Pig Roast & Fall Feast Dinner, also held in October. This joyful gathering helped put the finishing touches on a truly impactful campaign.

This donation represents a historic milestone for Sacred Heart Parish. Never before have we united to contribute to a project of this magnitude and importance for our community.

We are incredibly proud to support Saugeen Hospice and look forward to the positive and lasting impact this new facility will have on the families it serves. Thank you to everyone who made this possible—your generosity, dedication, and spirit of community have made all the difference.

Saugeen Hospice Inc. extends its deepest gratitude to Joerg Weller for an extraordinary gift of $100,000 toward the construction of our six-bed hospice residence. This generous contribution was made in loving memory of a dear friend, Jeff Armishaw, who recently spent his final days in hospice residence care.
