Did you know the shape of the palate isn’t just genetics? 👀

The tongue is meant to rest up on the roof of the mouth, helping guide the palate to grow wide and stable.

When the tongue rests low and breathing shifts to the mouth, the palate can grow higher and narrower over time.

This can influence:
🫁 airway space
🦷 tooth alignment
😴 sleep quality
🙂 facial balance

If you’ve ever wondered, or have been thinking that you or your child has a ‘small’ mouth, it’s worth an assessment to determine if Myofunctional Therapy would be beneficial.

We dive deep into your history, symptoms, breathing, sleep, oral function and more! And, we will help get you in touch with an Orthodontist that suits your needs if we need to create more space.

Jaw size isn’t just genetics. Orthodontics isn’t always necessary. Proper breathing and tongue function is.

Grey Bruce OMT is expanding! 🌿

We are excited to introduce the newest member of the team, Judy!

Judy has been a dental hygienist since 2012, and along the way her passion for airway health grew into a deeper calling. She now focuses on helping patients improve their breathing, sleep, and overall wellness by identifying and addressing the underlying causes of oral dysfunction - treat the root cause, not just the symptoms.
Outside of the clinic, you’ll find her behind a camera working on her photography and exploring new places!

Judy will be working with clients 1:1 virtually and is available afternoons and early evenings to support the busy schedules of families.

👂Recurring ear infections are often treated at the ear…
but the real root can live in the airway, breathing and swallowing pattern.

Low tongue posture → altered facial growth → mouth breathing → more inflammation → more congestion → reduced drainage → fluid sits → infection returns.

Low tongue posture → altered facial growth → mouth breathing → low muscle tone → dysfunctional swallow → reduced drainage → fluid sits → recurring infections.

When we restore nasal breathing, lip seal, and tongue posture, we reduce the congestion cycle, improve oral function and allow the ears to drain the way they were designed to.

Airway health matters for ear health.
If your child keeps experiencing ear infections, let’s look beyond the ear and toward how they breathe, rest, and sleep.

💛 Myofunctional therapy can support drainage, breathing, and balanced facial growth.

There are a lot of misconceptions about myofunctional therapy and honestly, it makes sense.

Most of us were never taught how breathing, tongue posture, or oral function influence growth, sleep, or long-term dental health.

Here’s the truth:
Myo is not a quick fix…
It’s not just for kids…
And it’s definitely not “just tongue exercises.”

It’s functional therapy that helps the mouth, face, and airway work the way they’re meant to.

If you’re wondering whether myo could help you or your child, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help! 💛

Retainers help, but muscles win long-term.
A truly stable smile needs:
 👄 Lip seal
👅 Tongue resting up on the palate
👃 Nasal breathing all day + all night
Myofunctional therapy helps correct the patterns that quietly shift teeth over time. Protect your investment and support healthy breathing, oral posture, and jaw growth.

Be sure to ask your Orthodontist if they collaborate with Myofunctional Therapists to get the best results. And if they don’t, reach out and we’ll be happy to help you with your tongue function!

Most people have never heard of myofunctional therapy — yet it connects so many dots.

By retraining how we breathe, rest, and swallow, we can support jaw stability, better sleep, and lifelong oral health.

Think of it as muscle training for the mouth and airway — helping you or your child find balance again.

If you’ve ever wondered why symptoms keep coming back (grinding, clenching, open-mouth posture, or restless sleep)… this might be the missing link.

Your nose is for breathing.
Your mouth? For eating, talking, and smiling 😄

When we breathe through the nose, the air is filtered, warmed, and humidified — supporting oxygen uptake, nitric oxide production, and calmer nervous system function.

Nasal breathing also:
✔️ Supports proper tongue posture
✔️ Encourages healthy jaw and facial growth
✔️ Promotes restorative, deeper sleep

💡 Try this quick reset any time throughout the day:
👄 Lips closed
👅 Tongue up to the palate
👃 Slow, quiet nasal breaths

Notice how your body feels?
Small shifts in function can create lifelong change. 💛

Thumb and finger sucking can be soothing and it often begins as a natural way to self-regulate.
But when the habit sticks around long-term, it can influence jaw growth, tooth position, breathing patterns, and oral posture.

So, how do you stop it? First off, try weaning between 6-12 months of age, but if you’re past that point there are options!

The key is not force…
It’s compassion, gradual change, and giving little bodies new skills to succeed.

When we support emotional needs and functional development, habit change becomes so much smoother. 🤍

If you have a little one trying to break a habit, but have been unsuccessful, our Oral Habit Elimination may work for you. Comment ‘HELP’ and let’s chat about your options!
