Lung Cancer Awareness Month

November's Lung Cancer Awareness Month is a crucial time for Lung Cancer Canada and the community. Each year, people unite to raise awareness, build support, and challenge the stigma and misconceptions surrounding lung cancer—a disease that affects over 32,000 Canadians annually, regardless of their background.

Lung cancer doesn’t discriminate. It impacts smokers and non-smokers, men and women, young and old alike. Despite recent advances, lung cancer remains underfunded, under-resourced, and burdened by stigma.

This November, www.lungcancercanada.ca is launching a series of powerful initiatives aimed at increasing awareness, strengthening the community, and driving meaningful change.

Why we need Fall Prevention Month:
*Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations among Canadian older adults. 20-30% of older adults fall each year
*Falls are the leading cause for hospital admissions from injuries for children ages 0 to 14

Whether you work in preventing falls among adults, older adults, children or across the lifespan, the Fall Prevention Month website offers resources to help organizations successfully organize and promote fall prevention activities. https://www.fallpreventionmonth.ca/

The website also lists additional resources on various fall prevention related topics. These resources were developed by external organizations and were selected by our Partners to be shared on this website. This site is not intended to be an exhaustive list of fall prevention resources, instead its purpose is to equip providers with evidence-informed resources to help them take action in preventing falls in their work.

What is Pulmonary Hypertension?
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a condition characterized by high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries (blood vessels) that carry blood to the lungs. PH is a rare but very complex and serious lung disease that is progressive and potentially fatal.

Unfortunately, pulmonary hypertension symptoms are similar to other lung and cardiac diseases, making an accurate PH diagnosis difficult. To know more about pulmonary hypertension, use this link:

Diabetes stigma is real and it’s harmful. It’s fuelled by misunderstanding and judgments that negatively impact those living with diabetes.

The truth is that diabetes is a complex, 24/7 condition that impacts every part of a person’s life—physically, emotionally and financially. It’s relentless and requires resilience to manage it every day.

This Diabetes Awareness Month, help stop the stigma and learn the truth.

Remembrance Day and Veterans’ Week is a time to respect, reflect and remember. It is a time to honour the fallen, reflect on the impact of armed conflict, and pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our country.

On November 11, the HHC will observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. to show gratitude for the courage and sacrifice of our veterans and those currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.
