Support home: Where a client chooses to live with a family other than their own. Supported Roommate: When a client requires assistance of a roommate to maintain independent living Respite supports: Provides a break for primary caregivers on a casual or temporary basis. Support Independent Living: When an ‘outreach’ worker provides the needed support with daily living skills. Assist those persons interested in gaining meaningful employment. These supports include: Employment preparation: Work experience, career exploration, job search and skill development are part of this process. Employment Placement: Securing employment opportunities that pay minimum wage or have a minimum wage exemption in place. Facilitates an individual’s participation and access to community-based opportunities. These include alternatives to competitive employment such as education, volunteerism or recreation

Daylight Saving Time begins March 8, when we “spring forward” and move our clocks ahead one hour to enjoy more daylight in the evenings. The idea was introduced to make better use of daylight during the warmer months and help people spend more time outdoors. Today, most of Canada follows Daylight Saving Time, welcoming those brighter evenings that remind us spring is just around the corner. ☀️🌷

This week in High River we are featuring Sarah!

Interview with Sarah Cowan working at Living Prairie Kennels in Blackie
Q: How long have you been working at Living Prairie Kennels?
SC: Ive been at LPK for 5+ years, I began as a volunteer and then was offered a job.
Q: What are your responsibilities at LPK?
SC: I take the dogs into the office leash for runs, walks and playtime. I clean the indoor Kennels and outdoor dog runs.
I have occasionally been given the opportunity to help with some training and I have participated in First Aid for Canines job training.
Q: What have you learned from working at LPK?
SC: I have learned patience, I have learned to be aware of a dogs abilities and meet their needs where they are at. I have learned time management, how to work as part of a team and how working with dogs can translate into everyday life.
Q: What advice would you give to others looking for this type of work?
SC: I would say you need to love animals, understand dogs, be able to work alone and outdoors in all weather, be open minded. Be open to the fact that every employer may not be able to accommodate our needs and be ok with rejection because the next job might be something you love. Base your search on things you love.
Q: What is your favorite memory working at LPK?
SC: When, Michelle (the owner) asked me to help/ watch one of their dogs having puppies.

What a great interview, Sarah! Thank you for sharing with us. You’re a star! 🌟
