What started as a request for a cedar hat grew into a full Stó:lō matriarch. It was an honor to let this piece evolve naturally at today’s Shxwōwhamel women’s wellness event. It’s a reminder that our traditions aren’t just objects we wear. They are lived through the powerful women, like Auntie Clara, who keep our spirits whole. Kunolunkwa!

Honoring the cycles. 🌕 Charging sterilized water used under the light of yukhisotha ’ (Grandmother Moon)—some say a traditional others say contemporary Haudenosaunee practice. all water including ourselves is charged by the moon many times throughout cycles and I appreciate taking time to bring medicine and intention into every line I ink. Was asked to do a Thunderbird hand poke and skin stitch tattoo. Often I have to clarify which style would be appropriate & preferred, as different nations depict Thunderbirds uniquely. Sometimes the differences are so subtle. She gave me creative freedom to choose the from Thunderbirds a part of her nations visual language.
