Metamorphosis Counselling My name is Dr. Amanda Baldwin-Block (she/her; they/them). I am particularly fluent in the issues of anxiety, trauma, gender and sexuality, and attachment.

TRAUMA-INFORMED COUNSELLING & EMDR IN SASKATCHEWAN

Helping adults, teens, and children work through trauma, anxiety, burnout, and grief –in person in Humboldt or Saskatoon or online sessions wherever you are. I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor through the CCPA and a trained EMDR therapist with the EMDR Center of Canada and EMDRIA. I also practice ACT, Feminist, Narrative, Solutions-Focused, Response-Based and a handful of other therapies including Motivational Interviewing, Group Processes, and a bit of Somatic Experiencing. I am currently taking ongoing training and engaging in consultation to support folks who experience varying degrees of dissociation. I am able and insured to provide counselling and therapy services remotely, to anyone living in Canada.

🧒🏽 Teens and kids notice more than we think. Support looks like attunement, not perfection.
Try:
• Normalize mixed feelings: “It’s okay to be excited and overwhelmed.”
• Keep a few routines (sleep/meals/quiet time).
• Teach simple regulation: 5-finger breathing, shake it out, “name it to tame it.”
• Talk about money limits without shame; invite kids into planning low-cost fun.
• Protect downtime; overscheduling helps no one.
Caregivers: good-enough parenting beats perfect holiday performance, every time.

Family sessions or parent consults can make this season gentler for everyone.

Routine & Relapse Prevention

🧩 Structure is a steadying friend. Disrupted sleep, food, movement, or therapy breaks can nudge symptoms up.
Choose 3–5 “anchor habits”:
• Sleep window 😴 (even if times shift, keep the range).
• Daylight & movement 🚶 (10–20 min counts).
• Regular meals & water 🍲💧.
• Meds & supports 💊 (alarms help).
• A 10-minute “off-duty” reset daily.
Create a “If I start slipping, I will…” note: text someone safe, book/return to therapy, reduce alcohol, add morning light, resume one anchor. Lower the bar; consistency beats intensity.

Boundaries & Family Dynamics

🧭 Old roles can re-activate quickly. Protect your energy with a plan you can actually use.
Tools:
• Scripts: “I’m not discussing that today.” / “I’m here for an hour.” / “I’m stepping outside for air.”
• Non-negotiables: an ally person, no politics, sober environment, your own transportation.
• Exits: arrive late/leave early, sit near a door, pre-book a check-in text.
• Name the grief: boundaries can bring loss (traditions, approval) and relief (safety, calm). Both can be true.
Your worth isn’t measured by how much discomfort you can tolerate.

We’ll help you rehearse scripts, plan exits, and work with the mixed feelings that come with saying no.

Grief & the “Empty Chair”

🕯️ Holidays can turn up the volume on absence. Grief is love with nowhere to go, and it deserves room at the table.
Permission slips:
• You may cry, leave early, or skip an event altogether.
• You may keep a tradition—or change it this year.
• You may talk about them by name and share stories.
Simple rituals help: light a candle, set a memory place at the table, make their recipe, write a letter, create a small “altar” with photos or objects. Rituals don’t fix grief; they create pockets of meaning and breath.
If waves hit, ground gently: name 5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear; press your feet into the floor; lengthen your exhale.

You don’t have to navigate this alone. We can pace the work with you.

🎁 The most expensive version of the holidays isn’t the most meaningful. Shame thrives in comparison; honesty and values cut it down to size.
Try this:
• Set a kind budget (numbers that protect mental health, not just math).
• Name low-cost connection: walks, board games, shared playlists, potlucks, handwritten notes, photo swaps.
• Gift scripts: “We’re keeping it simple this year—experiences or homemade, please.” / “Let’s do a $10 limit or no gifts—time together is the gift.”
• Talk with kids at their level: “We’re saving for things that matter to our family, so gifts will be smaller this year.”
Reducing spend isn’t failure; it’s boundary-setting in a tough economy.

Loneliness & Comparison

🌙 Many people feel more alone during the holidays—especially with “highlight reels” on social media. If that’s you, you’re not the only one.
Try this three-step plan:
1. One intentional reach-out 📱 (a text that says, “Thinking of you—do you have 10 minutes to chat this week?”).
2. One connective plan 🗓️ (coffee, a walk, game night, or a virtual chat).
3. One meaningful solo ritual 🕯️ (cook a favourite meal, light a candle, journal, volunteer).
Remember: “Alone” and “lonely” aren’t the same. Chosen family can be grown—slowly, deliberately. Start where you are.

If connection feels hard because of anxiety, grief, or past hurts, therapy can help you build safe social muscles at a sustainable pace.
