Yesterday, we paused to remember.

On November 11, Canadians gathered across the country to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve in times of war, conflict, and peace.

In Innisfail, one of our own, Leirin Barker, attended the community Remembrance Day ceremony on behalf of our team, joining others in reflection and gratitude.

As we carry on with our work today, we do so mindful of the freedoms and safety we enjoy because of their service. Lest we forget. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ

This week, Medavie Health Services was pleased to take part in the Para Mentors Conference in Toronto - an event dedicated to connecting, inspiring, and supporting current and future paramedics across Canada.

Our booth was hosted by Alyssa Bechtold from our Central Alberta location and Tianna Langelotz from our Crestvue team, joined by representatives from our operations in Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Health Education team. Together, the team shared insights about our organization, discussed career opportunities, and connected with professionals and students passionate about making a difference in their communities.

Events like this are an important way to strengthen relationships within the EMS community and inspire the next generation of paramedics.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of mental wellness โ€” for our patients, our communities, and our teams.

Every call leaves an impact, and itโ€™s okay to reach out for support. Letโ€™s continue to check in with one another and prioritize mental health, every day. ๐Ÿ’š

Today weโ€™re celebrating an incredible milestone. Dale Bayliss, an Advanced Care Paramedic, recently marked 44 years in EMS! ๐Ÿ‘

Dale has dedicated more than four decades to caring for others and strengthening the communities he serves. His commitment, compassion, and leadership have left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues over the years.

Weโ€™re also proud to share that the Bayliss legacy continues. Daleโ€™s daughter, Robyn Bayliss, follows in his footsteps as an ACP Supervisor in Wetaskiwin. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you, Dale, for your extraordinary dedication and for inspiring the next generation of paramedics.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never made it home, and acknowledge the lasting impact this history continues to have on Indigenous peoples. It is also a time to reflect on the work still needed to support healing and reconciliation across Canada.

As part of this reflection, our paramedics wear orange epaulettes โ€” a visible reminder of our commitment to listening, learning, and standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities. In EMS, reconciliation extends to the care we provide every day: ensuring continuity of care, building trust, and delivering services that are compassionate and culturally respectful.

We are proud to stand with Indigenous peoples and continue our journey toward understanding, healing, and reconciliation.

Our paramedics proudly wear coloured epaulettes throughout the year to raise awareness and show support for important causes that impact the communities we serve.

Each colour has a special meaning:
Orange - Truth and Reconciliation Day (September)
Green - Mental Health Awareness
Light Blue - Prostate Cancer Awareness (November)
Pink - Breast Cancer Awareness (October)
Dark Blue - Autism Awareness
Rainbow - Pride

This month, you'll see our teams wearing orange epaulettes as a visible sign of reflection and remembrance leading up to Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 30. It's one way we show our commitment to honouring survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities.

With students heading back to class, our crews know the roads will be a little busier and sidewalks a little fuller. As paramedics, we see first-hand how a small lapse in attention can lead to serious consequences especially around schools.

A few simple reminders can make a big difference:
๐Ÿ‘€ Stay alert for children walking, biking, or getting off buses.
๐Ÿข Slow down in school zones โ€” seconds saved arenโ€™t worth a life.
๐ŸšŒ Never pass a school bus with flashing lights.

By taking extra care, you help keep kids safe and help prevent emergencies before they happen. Letโ€™s work together to make this school year a safe one for everyone. ๐Ÿ’™
