Ahead of the upcoming Estimates process in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, the BCRS met with Dr. Anna Kindy, BC Health Critic, to ensure our priorities are clearly understood before detailed budget review begins.

This timing matters. Engaging in advance of Estimates allows us to frame the pressures facing Radiologists before formal budget scrutiny begins.

The BCRS continues to advocate proactively so that Radiology remains central in provincial health planning.

Dr. Wan Wan Yap and Amy Smith recently met with Jason Craig, Knowledge Lead, and Andrea Burton, CEO of the Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia, to discuss the proposed scope of practice change that would allow physiotherapists to order diagnostic medical imaging.

The BCRS shared key concerns related to ongoing radiologist shortages, wait times, appropriateness criteria, and clarification on the most responsible physician for incidental findings.

The Physiotherapy Association of British Columbia expressed a strong commitment to collaboration and invited BCRS to serve as an active partner throughout the process.

We are encouraged by the openness demonstrated in this meeting and look forward to continued collaboration.

The BCRS recently had the opportunity to connect with the Honourable Josie Osborne, Minister of Health, alongside Dr. Charlotte Yong-Hing and BCRS CEO Amy Smith.

We look forward to building a strong, collaborative relationship and hope this marks the beginning of ongoing dialogue in support of Radiology and patient care in British Columbia.

We are also hopeful to welcome the Honourable Josie Osborne to the BCRS Conference in Victoria in May 2026.

Advocacy in action.
On Tuesday, January 27, Dr. Wan Wan Yap, Dr. Will Siu, and Amy Smith met in Victoria with Yongmei Chen, Executive Director of Surgical and Medical Imaging, and Ian Rongve, Assistant Deputy Minister.
The meetings focused on key BCRS priorities, including after-hours call coverage and Interventional Radiology. These were productive discussions with important takeaways and potential collaborative solutions identified. Follow-up meetings have been scheduled, and we will continue to keep members informed as this work progresses.
