🌺 Remembrance Day

Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of those who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy.

We remember the men and women who laid down their lives in times of war, and those who continue to serve in the pursuit of peace.

Their bravery reminds us that the cost of freedom is great, and their legacy calls us to live with gratitude, compassion, and respect for one another.

As we wear the poppy and observe a moment of silence, we say with heartfelt sincerity,
we will remember them.

World Mental Health Day is a powerful reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that everyone deserves support, compassion, and understanding. It's a day to break the silence, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental well-being.

Whether you're thriving, surviving, or somewhere in between, this day honors your journey. It's a time to check in with ourselves and others, to prioritize rest, connection, and kindness.

Most importantly, it's a global call to action: for better care, more resources, and a future where no one has to struggle in silence.

You are not alone — and on World Mental Health Day, that truth rings louder than ever. 💚

Today is a solemn reminder of the history we must never forget the strength, resilience, and untold suffering of Indigenous communities. It’s a day to acknowledge the painful truths, to honor those who endured the injustices of residential schools, and to recognize the lasting impacts of colonization.

But it is also a day to listen. To listen to the voices that have been silenced for too long, and to commit ourselves to learning, to understanding, and to supporting a future of healing. Reconciliation isn’t just about remembrance, it’s about action. It’s about building relationships based on respect, dignity, and equality.

More than 720 000 people die by su***de every year. For each su***de, there are an estimated 20 su***de attempts.

Su***de can occur at any stage of life and in all regions of the world. In 2021, su***de was the third leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds globally, and 73% of all su***des happened in low- and middle-income countries. Almost 20% of global su***des were due to pesticide self-poisoning.

While the link between su***de and mental health conditions (in particular, depression and alcohol use disorders) and a previous su***de attempt is well established in high-income countries, many su***des happen impulsively in moments of crisis. Further risk factors for su***de include experience of loss, loneliness, discrimination, relationship dispute, financial problems, chronic pain and illness, violence, abuse, and conflict or other humanitarian emergencies.

Stigma around mental health conditions and su***de means many people thinking about su***de do not seek help. Su***des and su***de attempts have a ripple effect that impacts on families, friends, colleagues, communities and societies.

Hi everyone! As we roll into fire season, we’re getting fully prepped for emergency evacuations here at Cedar & Sunflowers Dog Boarding. A couple of incredible local firefighters recently boarded their pups with us and asked about our evacuation plan—which got us thinking ahead.

To ensure we’re fully ready to safely and quickly evacuate every dog in our care, we’re looking to collect 8 large dog crates (suitable for dogs up to 100 lbs). If you have any gently used crates sitting around that you’re no longer using, we’d be incredibly grateful for the donation!

Feel free to message me here or comment below—pickup in Kamloops and surrounding areas can be arranged. 🌻

Thanks so much for supporting safe and thoughtful care for our furry friends! 🐾🌲

Mental Health Month
Fairness and Respect

The first step to combating bias and discrimination is recognizing and identifying it.

Leaders must be acutely aware of any internal, unconscious bias that they may hold and understand that everyone does carry some level of this bias with them. Denial is just another way of ignoring and therefore exacerbating the problem.

However, if a leader admits these shortcomings in themself, they can then take steps to correct them.

From there, a leader should constantly evaluate how those biases impact their decisions and actions in the workplace. Take these steps to ensure that you are act fairly and respectfully in your day-to-day.

Make sure that you are listening to and valuing all contributions equally.

Speak up to challenge inappropriate behavior of all levels, from outright discrimination to micro-aggressions.

Do not police culture. Allow people to be authentic. (For example, a coworker should feel safe discussing the trip they took over the weekend with their partner, regardless of gender identity or sexuality)

Work to identify and eliminate blind spots in processes to make sure that decision-making is fair and even.
