A Mânokêw doesn't stay standing without being anchored to the Askîy (earth). The pegs keep the canvas tight and the structure secure. 🌎

For us, our culture and ceremonies are those pegs. They keep us grounded and remind us where we come from. When we stay connected to the land and our traditions, we stay resilient.

What cultural practice helps you feel most grounded? 🌿

Every pole in a Mânokêw is unique: some are taller, some have a slight curve, but each one is essential to hold up the canvas. 🪵

In our community, we all bring different gifts (mîkiwin). Whether you’re a listener, a helper, or a storyteller, your strength is needed to keep our "home" standing tall.

How are you contributing your unique gift to your kinship circle today?

Trauma responses, like fight, flight, freeze, flop, & fawn, tend to mirror the stages of grief— denial (flight), anger (fight), bargaining (fawn), and depression (freeze).

That's not a coincidence.

When you look up from inside a Mânokêw, you see all the poles meeting at the top, pointing toward the sky. They lean on each other.

That’s Wîcihitowin: helping each other. We weren't meant to carry the weight of life alone. Today, remember it's okay to lean on your "poles." We are stronger when we stand together.

Pîhtikwê: there is always room for you in this circle. 🧡

From Healing to Thriving: It all comes back to the poles of the Mânokêw.

When our kinship is strong, we don't just survive the elements: we thrive within them. Reconnecting to our traditional languages and cultures is the lash that holds us all together.

As we conclude this series on Strength in Kinship, remember: you are a vital pole in our community’s tipi. Together, we are building a future of Miyowâyâwin (Being Well). ᒥᔪᐘᔭᐏᐣ

The pîminahkwân (rope) is what wraps around the poles, cinching them together at the top.

In kinship, this rope represents our shared language, stories, and the love that binds us. It’s the invisible bond that keeps us connected even when things get windy. Let's reach out and strengthen those bonds today. A simple text or a tea date can be that extra wrap of the rope. ☕✨

Acknowledging when you've reached your limit isn't a defeat— it's realistic, highly necessary self-care.

Resisting the compulsion to overfunction is one of the hardest things for many trauma survivors to do but one of the MOST important parts of recovery.

There is so much healing in a simple cup of tea... 🧡

Yesss! We are so excited to start our Intro to Medicine from the Land (maskîkiway) session on March 2nd! Drinking maskêkopak (muskeg tea) isn’t just about the taste: it’s about connecting to the earth and finding our way back to Miyowâyâwin (well-being). It is medicine for the soul! 🧡🧡🧡

We would love to have you join us as we learn together and honour the gifts the land provides. Taking that pause, feeling the steam, and smelling the earth... it’s all part of the healing. Thanks for being part of this journey with us!

LOVE LOVE LOVE! 🧡

Someone out there reading this is scared of their own thoughts. Maybe scared of their own memories or their own dreams.

I know. Your pain is hard to explain to anyone else— but it’s very real.

Take tonight a minute at a time.

Tansi! 🌿 Let’s talk about the Mânokêw (tipi). Did you know it starts with just three poles? This tripod is the foundation. Just like in kinship, our closest circle: our parents, elders, and mentors: form our base. When our foundation is strong, we can weather any storm.

Who is part of your foundational tripod? Let us know in the comments! 👇
