This is to honour the memory of my grandfather Paul Delorme. He passed away in March just 4 months shy of his 102nd birthday (July 23rd) and just days after being awarded the Legion of Honour from France for his actions during WW2. I wish we could of had one more birthday together grandpa. We were saved some heart ache as the French ambassador showed up a week early to give my Grandpa the French Medal of honor so he received it before he passed away, and then we still had the medal of honour ceremony for him posthumously
Our Grandpa Paul Delorme story
I experienced two gr***de explosions, one on the ship going to Dieppe [, France; on the "raid" of August 19, 1942] and quite a few boys got killed from this gr***de. I was lucky to just get a shrapnel through my mouth. I was able to just spit the shrapnel out of my mouth, but I had a big lip the rest of the time that, when I landed at Dieppe. We [The South Saskatchewan Regiment] landed Dieppe at 4:30 in the morning by the way, a little village called Pourville [-sur-Mer], about three miles south of Dieppe.
