Although this is targeted to people and families who are Indigenous and have ADHD, K'odi delivers many nuggets applicable to the general population. He also gives a good synopsis of why Indigenous people's have a higher incidence of ADHD than the general population. It's a good watch.

When a loved one dies it’s important to talk about them, to keep that important person’s memories alive.

Therapy isn't a cure for grief. At its best, good therapy comes up beside you, supporting the work of your heart.

When your kids are grouchy and in full on melt-down mode what do you do?
-take away screens
-feed them a nourishing meal
-give them water
-get them outside to move their body
Here’s a hint – us adults need the same things!

Paddle boarding seems to be the thing to do on hot days, but it seemed boring to me. I heard it’s a good core workout and who doesn’t need a stronger core? What really convinced me to get a board this year is the opportunity it provides me to expand my mindfulness practice. In Brene Brown’s book Rising Strong, she defines mindfulness as “maintaining a consistent awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. It also involves paying attention to our thoughts and feelings without judgement or attachment. When we practice Mindfulness, our thoughts tune in to what we are sensing or feeling in the present moment, rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.”

I hate being cold and getting into cold water. When I’m paddle boarding I’m consistently aware of my thoughts, feelings, body sensations and environment to make sure I stay on the board.

I’ve also been researching ecotherapy which is best described as holistic healing practices based in nature, connecting with your surrounding natural environment, allowing you to reconnect to your senses and increase self-awareness. That sounds like another form of mindfulness. Being in nature and connecting with nature calms my nervous system. I learned that as a child hiking with my family, playing outside vs playing inside, riding my bike in the dirt hills and spending long days at the outdoor swimming pool in the summer.

We’re not always lucky enough to be outside, but with thoughtful preparation and effort we can achieve the benefits of being outside, especially the benefits of water wherever you are. When you’re having a shower or bath, drinking water or washing the dishes, take a moment and slow down. Using your senses, notice the temperature of the water, how the water feels on your body, what it sounds like, what it smells like, what it looks like and possibly what it tastes like. I call these “mindful moments”. What are some ways you create “mindful moments” and connect with nature when you’re unable to get out in nature?
