Wishing a big Happy Birthday to the mom of all moms today! 🎉🥳

The one who is everything to everyone.

The one who went above and beyond to put the magic in our childhood.

The one you go to if you need an opinion, pep talk, advice or a positive perspective.

The one you can count on to get s**t done. Whether you need help with a house reno project or meal for 50, she can make it happen.

The one who drops everything if someone in her family needs her support.

Volume foods will be your best friend on your weight loss journey. 👌

These are the foods you can enjoy in large quantities for very minimal calories. They also provide your body with a ton of nutrients and micronutrients (which help curb cravings) and add significant bulk to your meals, helping you feel full and satisfied.

Being mindful of including more volume foods in your diet allows you to eat more food for less calories, manage your weight, maintain steady energy levels, curb cravings and support your overall metabolism.

Just so we’re clear though, not ALL of your foods should be low calorie!!! We still need our protein, healthy fats and high fibre foods to balance our plates.

My client Sarah *knew* what she needed to do to lose weight. She had worked with trainers and coaches in the past and had success with weight loss.

The problem?

The approach she had been taught was strict and rigid, and even though it worked, it wasn’t sustainable long term.

About 3 years ago, we found ourselves getting into a bad habit during the dreary winter months. We’d perch ourselves up at a local happy hour, order a few apps and waste away the afternoon. We had fun, but we always regretted it on Monday morning when we felt tired, sluggish and a little hungover.

So we both agreed to find a more productive habit and bought ourselves ski passes to Big White! This is our 3rd season, and we absolutely love it! Fresh air, exercise and no more sluggish Monday mornings. 🙌

One thing I’m super passionate about is that you don’t need more restriction, stronger motivation and a bunch of willpower to reach your weight loss goal.

What you need is a realistic strategy that will put you into a natural calorie deficit.

Hear me out...

Yes, it’s true that you have to be in a calorie deficit to lose weight. But the way you get into a calorie deficit doesn’t have to be from counting calories.

Inside my 8-week weight loss program, Mindset + Metabolism, I give clients two methods for success. One where they enter a natural calorie deficit without tracking their food, but instead track their habits.

If you consistently follow the habits, you lose the weight.

But I’m also not against understanding your calories if that works for you. If you feel like you’re already eating a balanced diet, and you consistently have good habits, you can choose to track calories (with my watchful eye 😉) to enter a slight calorie deficit.

If you consistently stay within your calories, you lose the weight.

No matter what method you choose inside the program, you can’t lose. This is a no-nonsense, very black-and-white way to make your weight loss goal a reality. There is a set of very detailed guidelines inside this program that will help you reach your goal in the quickest, healthiest way possible. I used to be so confused about carbs when it came to weight loss. Did I need to cut them all out? No? Ok, how much could I have then?

One thing that really helped me, was looking for carbs that were either:

1) High-Volume or
2) High-Fibre

Why?

Because choosing carbs that keep your insulin levels stable (aka your fat storing hormone) is essential if you have a weight loss goal. Plus, being smart with your carbs keeps you feeling satisfied, reduces cravings and supports steady energy throughout the day.

Every year teaches you something and 2025 reminded me of two things.

1) The hardest times teach you the most. I went from seriously wanting to quit my business in February, to having my most successful year to date by December. My clients thrived. I got the most referrals I’ve ever had. I got to work with my DREAM clients who were getting insane results and I was thriving like never before.

When s**t hit the fan in January/February last year, I had a little pity party first, but then I locked in. Where did I need to level up? What needed to change? What caused this?

The same thing happened in January 2022. I stepped on the scale after the Christmas holidays and realized I was at my heaviest weight ever. So I got serious about my health and lost 25lbs from January-July.

The low points are like slingshots if we’re open to it. They can be the catalyst to the biggest growth and the best changes. Go ahead and have your pity party if things aren’t where you want them to be right now. But then, make a decision to change. Lock in. Be bold. Where could you be by the summer if you started now?

2) I’m my happiest when I’m around my people. This year I got to spend so much time with my favourite people and it reminded me how lucky I am to have such amazing relationships in my life. From reminiscing on old times with my longest and closest friends, to dreaming big and setting crazy goals with new friends who are up to big things, and everyone in between - I’m grateful for you all.
