November is the month to create awareness about Men's Health…...especially awareness about men's mental health, Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and su***de risk.

On a daily basis in my physio clinic I witness men who are struggling physically and emotionally.

They may have chronic pelvic pain, erectile health problems, urinary incontinence and other symptoms that may be very embarrassing or difficult to openly discuss.

During MOVEMBER let's remember that there are many barriers to men receiving the treatment they need.

If you are a man struggling with pelvic health issues then please know you are NOT alone.

Reach out to your doctor or to a pelvic physiotherapist who is trained in treating men if you are noticing changes in your pelvic health.

Can we please STOP telling women they're not allowed to run with pelvic organ prolapse?

16 years ago running is what kept me sane as a single Mom. One year postpartum I signed up for the Big Sur marathon because I needed a destination marathon to help me manage my feelings of stress and overwhelm.

This is something I hear from many of my postpartum patients too!

My marriage fell apart when my son was an infant. I was juggling caring for a new baby, a toddler, running my physio business and I had stage 4 organ prolapse with both urinary and f***l incontinence. Yikes!

For me, running was the only time that I felt a sense of control over my body and a sense of blissful freedom.

I share this story because many women are told not to run if they have organ prolapse or if they have urinary or f***l incontinence.

I'm not saying all women with prolapse should be running.....but I am saying that every person with prolapse or with incontinence is unique.

Each person has their own recovery experience and helping that person navigate the experience both physically AND emotionally is paramount.

Recovering from postpartum injuries is definitely NOT just about the pelvic floor muscles....it's about recovering emotionally, mentally and physically.

If are struggling with pelvic symptoms related pregnancy or postpartum, pelvic physiotherapy
pelvic physiotherapy can help.
