"Trigger" is a tricky word. It feels familiar to most English speakers, so as we're talking more about mental health, it's not surprising that it's a word that often gets used without an understanding of what "trigger" actually means in a mental health context. Here's doodle 1 of 2 (second coming tomorrow!) on the difference between something that causes emotional discomfort and a trauma trigger.

Using accurate language to describe what we are experiencing is important. It can help us access the care we actually need, while leaving trauma survivors- an already marginalized group- accurate language to communicate our experience to the world.

Best practices in the assessment and treatment of children, youth, & young adults

Difficulties with sleeping, arguing, anxiety, mood, organization, attention and reading are common events in the lives of families. But when problems persist, we want to be the first place families, physicians, clinics or schools turn for help.

Kemptville Psychology & Counselling prides itself on offering best practices in assessment and intervention for children and youth. Our goal is to be the first choice of area families, physicians, clinics, and schools in mental health and education information, assessments, and intervention. We earn this reputation by collaborating with families and schools to provide the most current, research-supported interventions and assessments.

Visit our website, and look at the information on our Facebook, Twitter feed and Resources, Assessment, and Treatment pages. Feel free to discuss this information with your school, physician, or other health-care professionals. We are happy to help you make informed choices on the next-steps for yourself or your family.

Due to his current role with Upper Canada District School Board, Dr. Armstrong is not currently accepting clients registered to this board. We are happy to provide names of other psychologists, social workers or psychotherapists who may be able to help.
