Last month, we were deeply honoured to welcome National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak and her son, along with Grand Chief Ogichidaa Kavanaugh of Grand Council Treaty #3 to the Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth and Family Wellness Camp.
Her visit during our Fall Harvest was a powerful moment of connection — a time to share stories, teachings, and laughter alongside our youth, Elders, and community members.
We extend our heartfelt miigwetch to National Chief Woodhouse and her team for spending time with us, witnessing the spirit of the camp, and sharing such meaningful words about her experience:
“During my visit to the Makate Waagamichiwanang Gakinaa’amaatiwin Youth and Family Wellness Camp, I witnessed reconciliation, healing, and cultural pride in action. First Nation and non-First Nation youth came together in laughter, learning, and land-based teachings during the Fall Harvest — building friendships, confidence, and life skills that will last a lifetime.
What’s happening at this camp is more than programming — it’s transformation. The camp provides youth with the tools they need to be strong and grounded in their culture. Seeing these young people embrace who they are, guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, I am confident that when today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders, we’ll be in good hands.
I want to say miigwetch to the Ma’mo’weh Wii’soo’ka’tiwin Foundation and all those whose generosity makes this possible, and I encourage corporations and foundations to support this powerful, Indigenous-led model of healing, leadership, and hope.”
