πŸ’š Mental Illness Awareness WeekπŸ’š
(October 5–11, 2025)

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) β€” a national opportunity to learn, reflect, and show support for the millions of Canadians who live with mental illness.

Each year, MIAW reminds us that mental health is health. Many of us, or someone we care about, will experience a mental illness in our lifetime β€” and talking openly about it helps reduce stigma and build understanding.

Throughout the week, we encourage everyone to:

- Take a moment to learn about different mental illnesses and how they affect people in daily life.
- Check in with yourself and others β€” sometimes a small conversation can make a big difference.
- Challenge stigma by choosing language and actions that foster empathy and respect.
- Explore supports available through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or local mental health resources.

Let’s continue creating a community where it’s safe to talk about mental health, to ask for help, and to support one another. πŸ’š

If you or someone you know is in distress you can call or text 988 at any time. If it is an emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to your local emergency department.

12 Main Street South is where KACL's Community Mental Health Supports and Services, Dual Diagnosis and APSW programs are located. As always, these teams got into the spirit with a themed window display! Thanks to our champions, Dayna Polakoff and Allison Herr, for taking the lead and making it happen.
