As we start to enter the holiday season we would like to to share this heartfelt message from Board Chair, Selena Despres, on behalf of the LSCSS Board of Directors.
It’s That Time of Year Again
The festive season—filled with company, food, and entertainment—is often seen as a time of joy. But for some in our community, it can be the most challenging time of the year. Social isolation, financial strain, mental health struggles, and shifting family dynamics can turn what should be a season of celebration into one of hardship. After all, what are holidays when spent alone, in poor health, or without the means to join in the festivities?
Having lived in this community for many years, I look ahead with compassion for those whose circumstances differ from mine. I ask myself: What can I do to make their experience better? The gift of connection should never be underestimated—a simple visit to a neighbor can mean so much. Yet, individual needs are often complex, and when neighborly support isn’t enough, social services can provide confidential, professional assistance.
Keremeos is fortunate to have LSCSS—locally known as The Society—an organization dedicated to enhancing well-being by creating opportunities and supporting independence. For over five decades, their work has touched every corner of our community. Toddlers, youth, adults, and seniors all benefit—directly or indirectly—from more than 30 programs offered year-round. But many of these programs operate under the strain of stagnant funding, limiting their reach and impact.
If you are in a position to help, consider joining me in making a tax-deductible donation to LSCSS. You can choose to support a specific program or make a general contribution. Either way, your generosity will have a meaningful impact on people you know and care about.
