These are the moments. 💙

A fork was placed in a learner’s hand.

Not perfectly.
Not independently.
Not yet.

Hand over hand, a therapist guided the motion—

scoop… lift… bring it to their mouth.

Again.
And again.
And again.

It might look simple.

But learning to eat with a utensil is anything but.

It takes coordination.
Motor planning.
Tolerance.
Trust.

Trust that someone can guide you.
Trust in a process that doesn’t feel natural—yet.

For many of our learners, even holding the fork is a step.
Even allowing the support is progress.

And today, they did it.

Not alone—
but not resisting.

Participating.
Learning.
Trying.

And that’s where it begins.

Because independence isn’t built in one big moment.

It’s built like this—
one guided movement at a time.

These are the moments. 💙

What looks like “not listening”…
often isn’t.

When they don’t answer right away—

They’re not ignoring you.
They’re not being rude.
They’re not “not listening.”

Sometimes it just takes longer to process.
To find the words.
To respond in a way that feels right.

Autistic kids aren’t disengaged —
they’re working through it.

What they need isn’t rushing
or repeating louder.

It’s time.
Patience.
And space to respond their way,
at their own pace.

💛 Gold Sponsor Spotlight: Keswick Home Hardware 💛

For more than a decade, the Clee family—owners of Home Hardware Keswick—have stood beside Autism Unplugged Learning Centre as incredible supporters of our mission.

Their commitment to this community goes far beyond business. It shows up in the way they consistently give back, support local initiatives, and help create opportunities for families who need it most.

Because of partners like the Clee family, we’re able to create meaningful experiences—like our upcoming Sensory Friendly Movie Night—where families can feel included, supported, and truly welcomed.

This kind of long-standing support matters more than words can fully express.

We are so grateful to have Home Hardware Keswick as a Gold Sponsor and as part of the Autism Unplugged community.

Thank you for continuing to show what community leadership looks like. 💙

These are the moments. 💙

A learner waited.

Not because they had to…
But because they could.

For their turn.
In a group.
Without rushing, without interrupting—just waiting.

It might seem small.
But waiting is one of the hardest skills to learn.

It means understanding others exist in your space.
It means managing impulses.
It means trusting that your turn is coming.

And that kind of growth?
It doesn’t happen overnight.

It’s built—moment by moment,
with patience, practice, and support.

These are the moments. 💙

🧩 Autism Awareness Month Begins Here

On April 2nd, something meaningful is happening right here in Keswick.

Autism Unplugged Learning Centre is hosting our Annual Autism Flag Raising Ceremony—a moment that brings our community together around inclusion, understanding, and support.

For many families, this isn’t just symbolic.
It’s a reminder that they are seen, supported, and part of a community that cares.

📍 Autism Unplugged Learning Centre
23324 Woodbine Avenue, Keswick
🕥 10:30 AM

We’ll be joined by local leaders, families, and community members as we raise the flag and recognize the importance of building spaces where everyone belongs.

Things autism families wish people understood:

Sometimes our kids need to move.
Sometimes they need quiet.
Sometimes they need to leave and come back.

It’s not bad parenting.

It’s how they regulate.

And when environments are designed with that understanding, incredible things happen.

Kids participate.
Families relax.
And everyone gets to belong.

💙 Community Spotlight: Zehrs Keswick

Events like our Sensory Friendly Movie Night don’t happen without the support of local businesses who believe in inclusion.

A heartfelt thank you to Zehrs Keswick for stepping forward as a Community Sponsor and helping make this special evening possible for local autism families.

Because of community partners like Zehrs, families who might normally find the movie theatre overwhelming will be able to enjoy a night out together — with brighter lights, softer sound, and a welcoming environment where everyone belongs.

It’s a small act of support that creates a big moment for many families.

Thank you, Zehrs, for being part of a community that cares. 💙

🎬 Something special is happening in our community.

In just a few weeks, local families will walk into a movie theatre designed with them in mind.

Lights a little brighter.
Sound a little softer.
Freedom to move, laugh, and enjoy the moment without worry.

For many autism families, a traditional movie theatre can be overwhelming.

But on March 28th at Imagine Cinemas in Keswick, the theatre will look a little different.

Because every family deserves the chance to sit together, watch a movie, and simply enjoy the experience.

This night is possible because of the incredible support from our local community and sponsors who believe in inclusion.

💙 If you know an autism family who might enjoy a relaxed movie night, feel free to share this with them.

These Are the Moments.

Today, something extraordinary happened.

One of our learners said “I want” for the very first time.

Two simple words—but in communication development, they represent something incredibly powerful.

“I want” is one of the most important and challenging things a child can learn to say.
It means a child understands that their voice can influence the world around them.

It’s the beginning of asking.
The beginning of expressing needs.
The beginning of being understood.

These words don’t appear overnight. They come after weeks of prompting, practice, patience, and encouragement.

And today… it happened.

A learner used their voice to communicate a want.

To many people, it might seem like a small step.

But for that child—and for everyone who has been working alongside them—it’s the start of something incredibly meaningful.

Because when a child learns they can say “I want,” they are discovering the power of communication.

These are the moments. 💙
