Happy New School Year from Manitoba Chiropractors! It’s back to class and routines for Manitoba teachers and students of all ages along with their families. Carrying backpacks shouldn’t mean back pain. Start the year off right and protect your spine with these backpack safety tips:
• Always wear both shoulder straps and keep your backpack high on your back.
• Don’t strain. Bend your knees and use your legs to lift the backpack.
• If your backpack sways when you walk, it could be too loose. Adjust the straps to prevent sway.
• Keep the load stable. Place heavy items in the pack first and closest to your back so they don’t slide around in the bag.
• Ensure the pack never weighs more than 5 to 10% of your child’s weight. Older adolescents and adults should not carry more than 10% of their body weight.
These small changes can go a long way toward preventing aches, pains, and injuries. If your kids are experiencing persistent pain or discomfort, remember that Manitoba Chiropractors treat patients of all ages and can help kids feel their best!
