Feeling thankful for getting to spend a week of intensive learning from the annual Halifax ISTDP immersion. Equally thankful for a wonderful team of clinicians who share a passion for continued growth in our therapeutic practice and working dynamically to help clients who struggle with complex symptomatology engage in integration of the self and build emotional capacity to reduce symptoms and live more fulfilling lives.

For therapy to start, there are several prerequisite conditions:

The client has an internal problem that they want to work on with the therapist now.

Without these conditions, the therapist either does not have consent to start therapy, there may be no treatment goal to work on, or the therapist may be ineffectual to make the changes the client wants.

It can help to optimize your therapy experience and outcome by asking yourself:

🔹What internal emotional problem do I want to work on? (“What is it that happens in me that I want help with?”)

🔹 Do I want to work on the problem with this therapist? (Reading the therapist’s profile or having a brief consult call can help.)

🔹Do I want to work on the problem now?

Meet our team:

Ipek Kaptanoglu is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario as a Clinical Psychological Associate. She has well over a decade of experience providing psychological treatment and assessments to adults.

Ipek's therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational psychoanalytic psychotherapy. She has had intensive psychoanalytic training including years of weekly supervision during and post-graduate studies as well as engaged in psychoanalytic process research.

She pays close attention to her clients' recurring patterns, attachment styles, emotional dynamics, and the ways past experiences shape their current feelings and behaviours. Ipek is highly effective in helping her clients make sense of what may feel confusing or overwhelming and make meaningful, lasting change at a deeper emotional level. She is passionate in helping her clients feel more grounded, emotionally free, and have more authentic relationships with themselves and others.

Meet our team:

Ashlee Allen is a seasoned and skilled clinician who values, first and foremost, safety and connection in the therapeutic relationship. Through this safety and connection, Ashlee can help you explore the issues that may have been holding you back or getting in the way of living with ease.

Ashlee holds a Master's of Social Work and is a Registered Social Worker in Ontario.

She has training in various modalities including narrative therapy, CBT, and EMDR. Her most intensive training has been in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Therapy (AEDP), which is her primary modality. Ashlee will work with you to identify and process underlying patterns, old wounds and unfelt emotions and work towards resilience, behavioural change and self-compassion for all parts of your Self.

What an amazing 3 full days of attending the 21st Halifax annual ISTDP immersion with this wonderful group of people!! 🤩 Feeling armed and motivated to keep track of the triple psychotherapeutic factors (resistance, UTA, CTF) to help clients make meaningful and lasting change!
