First and foremost... 'The practice of massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain. Alana Hamelin is the founder, owner and practicing Registered Massage Therapist of 'Better Balance Massage Therapy'. Alana is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, which is the founding college of Massage Therapy in Canada. She has been practicing full-time, in a clinical setting, since January 2007 - present. She specializes in Deep-Tissue Massage and has extensive experience in treating Sports Related & Repetitive-Strain Injuries, Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries, Chronic Pain, Prenatal Massage and more. Recently, she is also proud to be teaching and supervising the Massage Therapy students at Trillium College! Her other work involves Sporting events, such as Barclay's Churchill Cup 2008, where she was responsible for pre-game Massage Therapy for the Irish and Scottish teams. And along with KOPI, she was the sole Massage Therapist, providing on-site Massage Therapy at Kingston's Feb Fest in 2009. We use our body language all day long to communicate with others — often without even noticing.

But here’s the part we tend to miss 👀

💪 Mobility Monday: Your Pelvis Shapes Everything!

Most lower-back tension isn’t actually a “back problem” —
👉 it often begins with how your pelvis moves.

Your pelvis is the foundation of your spine.
If it’s stuck in too much anterior pelvic tilt (forward tilt) or posterior pelvic tilt (tucked under), your lumbar spine compensates — and that’s when tension shows up.

🔸 Why this matters (evidence-informed):

⭐️Anterior Pelvic Tilt (APT)
Pelvis tips forward → low back increases its arch.

This can lead to:
Compressed lumbar joints
Tight, overactive low-back muscles
Hip flexor dominance
Reduced abdominal support

⭐️Posterior Pelvic Tilt (PPT)
Pelvis tucks under → low back flattens.

This can cause:
Overstretched lumbar tissues
Less shock absorption
Limited spinal mobility
Hamstring or glute dominance

In both cases, the low back is often responding to what’s happening in the pelvis — not causing the problem on its own.

🔸 Safe movement reminder:
✨ If flexion or extension causes pain, avoid pushing into either.
Return to a mindful, core-engaged neutral spine — your strongest and safest base.

🔸 Try these simple movements today:
– Pelvic tilts
– Cat–cow with tailbone awareness
– Hip circles
– Supported bridge
– Low-belly + rib breathing
(Always returning to pain-free, neutral alignment)

👌A little intentional mobility goes a long way for lower-back ease.

At first glance, they look like two totally different worlds — one on the mat, one in ancient philosophy books (or via modern writers and teachers like Ryan Holiday.)
