🎉 Celebrating a Century of Naturopathic Medicine: OAND Centennial Gala

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) hosted a remarkable Centennial Gala at the Toronto Congress Centre, commemorating 100 years of regulated Naturopathic medicine in Ontario.

The evening commenced with a Fireside Chat moderated by Cheryl Hickey, delving into the integration of Naturopathic Doctors into team-based care to address healthcare provider shortages and enhance patient access across Ontario.

One of our team members, Dr. Alanna Kuhn, ND, attended the gala and had the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the province. Dr. Kuhn, has been a registered member of the College of Naturopaths of Ontario, and an active member of the OAND and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors since 2013.

This centennial celebration not only honoured the rich history of naturopathic medicine but also highlighted its evolving role in Ontario's healthcare landscape. Here's to the next 100 years of growth, collaboration, and healing. 🌿

~ Medical Gaslighting ~

Too often, women walk into a doctor’s office with very real concerns—pain that doesn’t go
away, unexplained weight gain, fatigue that makes daily life impossible—and are told:

➡ “It’s just stress.”
➡ “You’re probably overreacting.”
➡ “Let’s just wait and see.”

This is medical gaslighting. It dismisses symptoms, delays answers, and puts women at risk.

In my work with women, I teach tools to push back against this culture of dismissal:

🔥 Be specific and firm.
Not “I just don’t feel right.” Instead: “This pain has lasted three months, and it interferes with my ability to care for my family.”

🔥 Shift the responsibility back.
Ask: “If you don’t think this is serious, can you explain why?” or “What tests would rule out more serious conditions?”

🔥 Bring evidence.
Track pain levels, fatigue, or weight changes over time. A log makes it much harder for
providers to wave away your experience.

🔥 Set boundaries in the room.
Say: “I don’t feel heard when my concerns are minimized. I need a clear next step before I leave
today.”

🔥 Know when to walk away.
If a provider continues to dismiss you, seeking a second opinion is not only your right—it’s an act of self-protection.

Women do not owe healthcare systems silence or compliance. We owe ourselves safety,
answers, and respect.

👉 Medical gaslighting is systemic, but change begins when women refuse to accept dismissal as “normal care.” Your body deserves to be taken seriously.

Hi, I'm Zoe!

I have eight years of experience working with women from preconception to postpartum to the early years of parenting. I truly believe that motherhood and women's health are public health issues that are incredibly worth our time and attention. I have seen firsthand the incredible, life-changing impacts of mental health care on a woman's quality of life.

In my work, I draw from approaches such as CBT, DBT, attachment theory, emotion-focused therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness-based practices to best support each person’s unique journey. In addition to supporting women, I also work with couples navigating challenges and provide parent coaching to strengthen the whole family.

I look forward to meeting with you and supporting your health journey—wherever you are coming from 🙂
