Kendrick Funeral Home and Gerald A. Smith Funeral Home are seeking an Ontario Licensed Funeral Director (FD- class 1).
We are a multi-location, small family owned and operated funeral home situated in Southwestern Ontario with locations in Harrow, Kingsville, Wheatley and Chatham. We strive to have a well-rounded work/life balance for all employees.

This position requires the funeral director to work in all aspects of the funeral home.

Specifics about the job:
-Rotating on-call schedule with one night a week and alternating weekends on call.
-Professional appearance is a must
-Excellent communication skills are a must as you will be interacting with the public on a daily basis
-Proficiency working with computers is an asset
-Competitive salary, health, dental, vision and life insurance supplied to full time employees
-Valid G class driver’s license, with a clean abstract

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made payable to Kendrick Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

The Gray Space of Grief

It’s not the moment they died.
It’s not the funeral.
It’s not the “I’m so sorry” texts or the casseroles dropped at your door.

It’s everything after that.

It’s the part no one warns you about—the gray space of grief.
Where the world keeps moving, but you’re suspended.
Not fully in the past. Not fully in the future.
Just… here. In between.

Where you forget what joy used to feel like.
Where smiles feel foreign and guilt creeps in if you catch yourself laughing.
Where people assume you’re “doing better” because you showed up to work or answered a text.

But inside?
You’re lost.
Not broken exactly. Just… altered.
Like a radio slightly out of tune.
Like a photo that won’t come into focus.

The gray space is quiet.
But not peaceful.
It’s the space where grief settles when the world stops watching.

And if you’re in it—
You’re not alone.
You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re surviving the part no one talks about.

And one day, color might return.
But for now, it’s okay to sit in the gray.

At Kendrick Funeral Home we are very lucky to have one of the most loyal staff members and a friend. Tony, we want you to know how much we appreciate your hard work! From keeping the grounds nice and tidy, the building spotless and our cars shined up and ready- we appreciate all the things you do for us! Tony has been working in our building for 17 years this week we are the lucky ones to have him as an employee! Congratulations!!
