People can hurt you by lashing out, saying mean things, giving you the silent treatment, or acting like you're the problem, not them. Sometimes you have to apologize and "be the bigger person" when you've done nothing wrong to "keep the peace." There's always excuses for their behaviour, like "that's just how they are" or "they've had a hard life" or "they're old and not going to change" or whatever. It doesn't make it right.

If you're told to be the bigger person, perhaps you should stop surrounding yourself with such small people. If you're told to keep the peace, does it make you feel at peace? They say "hurt people hurt people" like that makes it fine; there's those of us that have been hurt that would never want anyone to feel like that, so we don't act like that.

Protect your peace and your heart. You're every bit as important and worthy of considerate and kind behaviour as anyone else! Don't sell yourself short.

Why hold onto old hurts, old ways of being that don't help you anymore, relationships that are more burden than blessing? Just because you carried it for so long doesn't mean you have to carry it forever. What if you put it aside, put it down and moved forward, breathing freely? Looking at the past makes us regret, looking at the future can make us anxious. Living in the present is hard but is more peaceful than the if only and what ifs that plague our minds. Let it go, let them do whatever they're going to do, and move boldly forward into a lighter, brighter future for yourself.

Some days are dull and rainy, some are filled with sunshine; so too with our own personal times. We can't always have perfect days where everything goes right; sometimes it rains. However, that doesn't mean that that's all there is, or that we're destined to trudge along, weighed down. The sun always comes out, lightening our world and our life. Rain can bring growth, personal transformation, emotional cleansing and renewal. The sun after the rain can teach us that blessings can come in unexpected forms, showing us that even in our darkest moments that light can break through.

Growing, changing, evolving, and blooming in ways your previously thought impossible is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Defy your own and others' expectations of who and what you can be; don't be limited by doubts or old narratives telling you you can't. I was talking to someone the other day, and they were saying how people have commented that she's "such a ray of sunshine", but that she doesn't see herself that way as she struggles with depression and anxiety. I totally understood that. We don't see ourselves as others do; we are often our own worst enemies when it comes to how we treat ourselves. I told her, "Sometimes we become the light that we need," the light that others need too. We become what we need most, we become the adult we needed most as a child. We may not always see it, but we are all made of the bright light of the stars and are all worthy of that light.
