When stress is high, your immune system and mental health both feel it. 🌿

Ashwagandha Matrix by Cyto-Matrix is a thoughtfully formulated adaptogen designed to help your body better respond to stress — supporting both mood and immune resilience.

Here’s how it works:

🌿Helps reduce anxiety & stress
Ashwagandha is clinically studied for its ability to help regulate cortisol, our primary stress hormone. Balanced cortisol levels can mean feeling calmer, more focused, and less overwhelmed.

🌿Promotes better sleep
Chronic stress often disrupts sleep. By calming the nervous system, ashwagandha may support deeper, more restorative sleep — a key foundation for strong immunity.

🌿Supports immune function
Stress and poor sleep can suppress immune defenses. By improving stress resilience and sleep quality, ashwagandha indirectly supports a healthier immune response — especially during busy, high-demand seasons.

If stress is impacting your mood, sleep, or immune health, this may be a supportive addition to your plan.

Not all body fat carries the same risk when it comes to heart health.
Central adiposity — also known as abdominal or visceral fat — is one of the strongest predictors of cardiovascular disease.
It's not just about weight… it’s about where that weight is carried.

Fat stored around the abdomen (especially deep visceral fat around the organs) is metabolically active. It contributes to:
• Increased inflammation
• Insulin resistance
• Higher triglycerides
• Lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol
• Elevated blood pressure
• Increased risk of atherosclerosis

Research consistently shows that abdominal fat is more strongly associated with heart disease than overall body weight, or BMI alone.

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Canada — and modifiable risk factors like central adiposity play a major role.

One of the simplest and most useful tools is the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR).
Here’s how it’s calculated:
1️⃣ Measure your waist at the narrowest point (usually just above the belly button).
2️⃣ Measure your hips at the widest point.
3️⃣ Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement.
Waist ÷ Hip = WHR
General risk thresholds:
• Women: > 0.85 = increased cardiovascular risk
• Men: > 0.90 = increased cardiovascular risk
WHR helps us understand fat distribution — something the scale alone cannot tell us.

Central adiposity is modifiable.
At Sage, our naturopathic doctors support you with:
✔️ Nutrition guidelines that stabilizes blood sugar and reduces inflammation
✔️ Targeted supplementation
✔️ Hormone and metabolic assessment
✔️ Stress management strategies (cortisol plays a big role in belly fat)
✔️ Realistic movement plans that fit your lifestyle
✔️ Ongoing accountability & support

We focus on healthy, sustainable fat loss to improve metabolic markers and reduce long-term heart disease risk.

Heart attacks don’t always look the way you think they do — especially for women.💚

While chest pain can happen, women are more likely to experience subtle symptoms like unusual fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, jaw or back pain, dizziness, or pressure that feels more like tightness than pain.
These signs are often dismissed… and that delay can be dangerous.⚠️
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women — but knowledge is power.
Knowing the symptoms means you can take action quickly and advocate for your health.

If you’re concerned about your heart health, don’t wait. Prevention and early intervention matter.

Has your doctor told you you have high cholesterol or borderline blood sugar, even though you haven’t changed your eating habits?

As women enter their 40s, metabolic health often changes—and it’s not because you’re “doing something wrong.”

Shifts in estrogen and progesterone affect how your body responds to insulin, manages blood sugar, and processes fats.

As estrogen declines, many women develop insulin resistance, meaning glucose isn’t used as efficiently for energy.
This can lead to blood sugar swings, cravings, fatigue, and increased fat storage—especially around the abdomen.

At the same time, cholesterol levels often rise.
Estrogen plays a protective role in heart health, so when levels fluctuate, the liver’s handling of cholesterol changes. This is why women may see higher LDL or triglycerides, even when their diet hasn’t changed.

Omega 3 fish oil for heart health.💚
We all know we can get omega-3s from eating fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines, but getting therapeutic levels of EPA (the omega-3 fatty acid most studied for heart health) through food alone means eating a lot of fish every week. For many people, that’s tough to do consistently.
That’s where targeted supplementation comes in.

What the research says:
Studies on omega-3 fatty acids show that EPA and DHA can play a role in supporting cardiovascular health by helping maintain healthy triglyceride levels and supporting balanced cholesterol ratios.
Some research has found that higher, consistent intake of EPA may be linked to positive effects on certain markers of heart health when used as part of a balanced diet and lifestyle.
Most clinical research looks at higher daily doses of EPA/DHA than typical food sources provide, which is why some people consider supplements under medical guidance.

Why we like Cyto-Matrix Peak EPA:
• Third-party tested for purity and potency — so you know what’s in the bottle
• Free from top allergens — great for sensitive systems
• Standardized to deliver EPA at therapeutic levels many studies use

Why Heart Attacks Can Look Different in Women — And What Every Woman Should Know

Heart disease is not just a “man’s disease.” In Canada, it is one of the leading causes of death among women — even more common than many realize.
Women’s hearts and bodies are different, and that means heart attacks can present differently in women compared to men.

Women are often under-diagnosed and under-treated compared with men, and many aren’t aware that their symptoms might look different.
Understanding the signs could save a life. Knowledge really is power.

💥 Heart Attacks: Classic vs. Women’s Symptoms
The “classic” image of a heart attack — sudden crushing chest pain — comes mostly from how men experience them.

Women often do have chest discomfort, but it might feel more like pressure, squeezing, burning, or even indigestion. Women are also more likely to experience symptoms that aren’t as widely known, such as:
✔️Shortness of breath
✔️Unusual or extreme fatigue
✔️Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck, upper back, or stomach
✔️Nausea or indigestion
✔️Sweating or light-headedness
✔️Dizziness or irregular heartbeat

Because these symptoms can be more subtle, up to half of women’s heart attacks go unrecognized — both by the women themselves and sometimes by healthcare providers.

Recognizing the signs of a heart attack early can mean faster treatment and better outcomes.
When women and those around them know what to look for, they’re more likely to act quickly — which can be the difference between life and death.
Every woman deserves to be informed about her heart health.

Fatty liver disease is more common — and more silent — than most people realize.

Many people assume liver problems only happen with alcohol use, but metabolic fatty liver (now called MASLD) affects about 1 in 4 adults in Canada — often developing quietly without obvious symptoms.

You might not feel anything at first, but early signs can include:
Unexplained fatigue
Abdominal weight gain
Insulin resistance or elevated blood sugar
High cholesterol or triglycerides

Fatty liver isn’t just about excess fat in the liver — it reflects deeper metabolic imbalances like blood sugar dysregulation, gut health challenges, nutrient deficiencies, and lifestyle factors.

The good news? In many cases, fatty liver can be reversed, especially when caught early.

At Sage, naturopathic care focuses on supporting the root causes through:
✔️ Nutrition strategies that support blood sugar balance
✔️ Movement to improve insulin sensitivity
✔️ Evidence-based supplements and liver-supportive nutrients
✔️ Gut health and metabolic support
✔️ Sustainable lifestyle changes tailored to YOU

Your liver plays a major role in detoxification, hormone balance, digestion, and metabolism — supporting it can have ripple effects throughout your entire health.

If you’ve been told your liver enzymes are “normal” but you still struggle with metabolic symptoms, a deeper assessment may help uncover what’s going on.

Worried because heart disease “runs in your family”?
Genes are not your destiny.

Many people believe that if heart attacks or clogged arteries (atherosclerosis) are part of their family history, developing heart disease is inevitable.
But genetics are not your destiny.
Having a family history simply means you may have a higher risk — not a guaranteed outcome.

Research shows that lifestyle factors like nutrition, movement, stress levels, sleep, and alcohol intake can influence how certain genes are expressed.

This means your daily choices can play a powerful role in protecting your heart and reducing long-term risk.

Here are 3 simple ways to support heart health starting today:

💚Eat a balanced, fibre-rich diet
Focus on whole foods, quality protein, healthy fats, and plenty of fibre to support cholesterol balance, blood sugar regulation, and overall cardiovascular health.

💚Increase fruits and vegetables
Packed with antioxidants, vitamins and fibre and nutrients that help reduce inflammation and support healthy blood vessels.

💚Reduce stress and alcohol intake
Chronic stress and excess alcohol can increase inflammation and strain the cardiovascular system — small sustainable changes can make a big difference over time.

Your heart health story is still being written — and you have more control than you may think.

CoQ10 for Heart Health: Why It Matters More in Midlife & Beyond

As we age, supporting heart health becomes increasingly important — and one nutrient that often deserves more attention is Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10).

CoQ10 is a naturally occurring antioxidant that plays a key role in energy production inside your cells, especially in high-energy organs like the heart. Think of it as a “spark plug” that helps your cells produce the energy they need to function optimally.

Why CoQ10 is especially important in midlife and beyond:

✔️ Supports heart function
CoQ10 helps fuel the heart muscle, which requires significant energy to pump efficiently and maintain healthy circulation.

✔️ Antioxidant protection
It helps combat oxidative stress — a contributor to aging and cardiovascular concerns.

✔️ Energy and vitality
Many people notice improved energy levels since CoQ10 supports mitochondrial function (your cells’ energy factories).

Statins are commonly prescribed to help manage cholesterol levels, but they can also lower the body’s natural production of CoQ10. For some individuals, this reduction may contribute to side effects like muscle aches, fatigue, or reduced exercise tolerance.

Supplementing with CoQ10 may help support healthy levels and reduce these unwanted symptoms — which is why it’s often considered alongside statin therapy (always under guidance from a qualified healthcare provider).

We love NFH CoQ10 SAP - 3rd party tested for purity and potency.
