The Pathway Doula Services

The Pathway Doula Services Passionate Doula’s, supporting women on their pathway to becoming mothers. Providing compassionate I have always been drawn toward the "helping" professions.

What started as a two passionate mothers coming together to work as doulas and serve woman in our community has turned into a collective that spans two provinces; serving both Ontario and PEI. To learn a little bit about the passion that started The Pathway Doula Services check out Jenny & Emily's stories below and be sure to check out our website to learn about each of the doulas available in your province. Jenny: After an amazing pregnancy and home birth I welcomed my son Jericho. Eager, passionate and excited to tell my birth story I in return heard many others. I quickly realized that most did not have the wonderful birthing experience that I did. I decided to become a doula to use my passion around natural pregnancy and childbirth to help other woman have a wonderful birth story that they too will be eager and excited to share. After working as a nurse since 2010 the transition has come quite naturally and I am very excited and honored to be certified doula. I am also passionate about essential oils, especially how they can be used during pregnancy, labour and birth. I offer classes on how to use oils in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Emily: I have been apart of the health care field for quite some time, I have worked in the long term care sector and currently work as a support worker for disabled adults at a local group home. I graduated from the University of Waterloo with my Social Development Studies degree specializing in Social Work. I wasn't sure where this degree would take me, and what a journey is has been thus far. In September 2016 I gave birth to my daughter Scarlett and I quickly fell head over heels involve with her and my new type of "helping" profession; that of a mother. After hearing multiple birth stories I soon realized mine was far from the "norm," yet it was normal to me as it was my first. After a hard first few months. I took my Doula training in hopes of gaining knowledge and insight into the world of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I am passionate and eager to share this beautiful journey with others, through personal experience and learnt skills. "SO JOIN US AND FALL IN LOVE WITH YOUR BIRTH STORY, BY
PUSHING PRETTY!"

Still in disbelief that this wonderful woman suddenly passed away. If you received a beeswax wrap from us as a client, you know a little piece of what this woman’s business was; reusing and repurposing to be kinder to the earth. Susan was a community leader who was passionate about women, small business, teaching and involving anyone in making even the smallest adjustments to leave the earth just a little better than before. Susan leaves behind a young son, please donate if you’re able. ✨ Susan, your impact on the region, us and beyond won’t be forgotten.

The Pathway Doula Services has served the region of KW and the island of PEI for the last 5 years. This buisness was such a passion and brought so so many wonderful people into our lives - many of them who became permanent fixtures through friendship, life and growing families.

It is with joy and sadness that we leave this venture behind for now. Emily and I started this buisness together as a way to pursue our passion around birth, to foster and enjoy our friendship, raise our kids together and have fun through serving our community. We moved forward to add Erin to our KW team while I moved to PEI and served the women and communities across the island. Eventually we added Holly to our team as my life and role changed and she carried on serving the women of PEI with grace. We all grew so much in friendship, in passion and we made big impact wherever we served as doulas.

All of our lives have changed in these 5 years; Emily and I both have grown our families, Erin has continued in schooling and Holly has also moved along to ventures that fit the schedule of her family better for now.

While this venture will also be one filled with fond memories we are all living with joy in the moments we are in now even though that means our doula work isn’t at the forefront.

On January 15th, we will officially close for the time being. If you have open contracts with us, we will of course continue with them but we will no longer be accepting new clients and our website will no longer be live.

Thank you to every woman and family who trusted us with their care over these 5 years - we’ll never forget any of you - it was the privilege of a lifetime.

Passionately your doulas,
✨ Emily, Jenny, Erin & Holly

It’s world breastfeeding week! This year the focus of this week is protecting breastfeeding; a shared responsibility.

Do you know an expectant Mom? Encourage her to be educated, support her in her efforts to prepare for breastfeeding.

Do you know a Mom whose just given birth? Encourage her to get help if she needs it, support her to get the right latch, bring her food so she can focus on nursing her baby, normalize “rooming in”, nursing in public, responding to baby as necessary and nurturing Moms.

Do you know a Mom whose “still breastfeeding”? PRAISE HER. Encourage her to continue until her personal journey is complete with her babe. Support her breastfeeding her child for as long as possible. Normalize older children breastfeeding; at home, in public, for comfort, for added nutrition. Just because they want to.

Breastfeeding is a community effort - encouraging, supporting and normalizing helps women feed their children.

Never again should any woman shy away in a dirty bathroom stall, rush home so they don’t have to breastfeed in a judging public or stop breastfeeding before they’re ready because they can’t access the correct support.

Be one person, right now, that changes the narrative and thrusts breastfeeding into the normality of everyday life. For every woman and mother you know and those around you who will one day be mother’s too.

We’d love to hear your experience with breastfeeding in the comments ✨ If you’re struggling with breastfeeding, need help, encouragement or a listening ear please message us; we’re happy to help ♥️ Happy Breastfeeding Week!

Thank you Hilary Duff for continuing to normalize birth in the home setting. This is so stunning! We love all birth but especially love to see such a peaceful home birth that allows those who aren’t familiar with this type of birth place to see it in all its glory.

Congratulation to you on your newest addition and thank you for empowering women and being you!

Fathers, partners, supporters, providers, bonus dads, father figures.. no matter what you are called we see you.

We see you holding your partners hand during those intense waves in labour, carrying all the bags into the hospital/house with super strength, letting your back and arms grow tired to hold up your partner because it’s the only thing helping them cope, grabbing cold cloths or warm blankets, filling water bottles, putting up hair, the list goes on and none of it goes unnoticed.

Becoming a Doula has allowed me to see many partners become Fathers and it is one of my favourite parts of the job. Watching and helping them navigate supporting their partner during birth, holding their hand and assuring them the pain is all part of the process and everything will be alright, seeing their faces light up with the purest of joy when they see their babies for the first time. It’s simply the best.

Thank you to all the Fathers today!

This photo is of a very special couple. They were my first doula clients and this is one of the most absolutely beautiful moments I have been able to witness and capture. It represents the purest joy that is - becoming a father! (Shared with permission)

Today, May 5th, is International Day of the Midwife! Midwives have been a central and integral part of why The Pathway Doula Services started; their compassionate, informed, autonomous care provided support that drove the beginnings of this business back in 2017 and part of what still drives us today. While PEI has passed legislation to bring midwifery care to the island, that promise has yet to come to fruition and women are still crying out for the care of midwives; choice of birth place, respect, autonomy in their birth. So today, while there is still so much work to be done, we celebrate midwives everywhere and the very significant work they do. Thank you for changing the world one birth, one family, one woman, one baby at a time.
